Our stay in this hotel was a very pleasant surprise. There are some very poor reviews and I would not have chosen to stay here had we not had two dogs. This is the only hotel in the area that welcomes dogs and they certainly did get a welcome from the very friendly staff. The public areas of the hotel are decorated as a Victorian country house. Our room had a much more modern feel with a laminate floor and a tiled bathroom. Our room was very warm and we only found out in the morning that we could open the top windows! There was a generous breakfast bar laid out, with plenty of choice of cereal, fruit juices and fruit, including freshly sliced oranges. My husband enjoyed the cooked breakfast. My only criticism would be that I'd have preferred a mixture of white and brown toast, rather than just white. We would certainly stay here again.
We did not try dinner as the wonderful Red Poppy restaurant is nearby.

Room Tip: We had room number 11

Very friendly staff...clean,tidy room. Wholesome food and value for money. Was very impressed with the village... Nice Victorian architecture. Will definitely go back and it would be nice to see the Strathpeffer pipe band.

We recently spent 4 nights at the Strathpeffer Hotel. We were part of a large group and were enjoying the first part of a 2 centre holiday. On arrival were were met by Mimi, who was the daughter of the manager. She explained really well the set up for our 4 nights. Our first meal was dinner, as we arrived quite late. we were all put in tables of six and this was a great way of meeting new people. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and very efficient. Our food was served fairly quickly and was quite nice. Our room was quite large and the bathroom contained a bath and mixer taps for a hand held shower. The bed was comfortable. The one thing that was very good was at breakfast you chose your menu for that night, which meant the food was served quickly. All in all the food served all week was good. At breakfast the food was cooked to order and the staff were very helpful, especially the manager who was always there at breakfast serving with a smile. The hotel itself was very traditional with tartan carpets and curtains, along with stags heads on the wall. The only thing which let the hotel down was the bar. It was a little bit drab and lacked any atmosphere. I would certainly think about staying there again, and would be interested to see how it would be like going as a couple and not in a big group..

Food not the best frozen veg every night
Rooms run down
Staff great
Bar prices over inflated for offshore guys staying
Would not go back
Staff are the best thing about this hotel they deserve all tips from the bar not have the owners take a share as it's the staff that get the tips and deserve it.

On a national holiday to scotland we stayed at the strathpeffer hotel at strathpeffer.the hotel and staff were very good but with a few small improvements would be excellent.the hotel is very comfortable and food good but the hotel is showing a few signs of age.a little decorating and improvements to showers would make a considerable improvement.
No one could get showers to work and one towel in my room was thread bare.
Other than minor niggles there was nothing wrong with our stay in this hotel and would happily return for another visit.

Often it is good to read reviews AFTER you have been somewhere. I wouldn't have gone here if I had read them in advance. The place is a strange mix of décor to be sure and not my choice at all. However, the other people seemed satisfied with their National Bus tour, and for what they were paying, then this hotel seemed OK. The food was hearty and filling. Nothing is 'locally sourced etc. etc.' and anyone who expects such is mad. This is catering for the masses at an affordable price. The entertainment was excessively loud and went on and on. You couldn't hear yourself speak/think! People do want to talk to each other in the evenings, so take the volume down a notch or two. Nothing wrong with BACKGROUND music.
I can imagine that it does well out of the 'offshore brigade', but they shouldn't forget their other paying customers.
