“Good Value”
Reviewed 3 June 2014

I stayedwith fellow golfers in June 2014 for 3 nights at Golf View House. I echo the comments of others that the B&B is spacious and spotless, the welcome warm and the breakfast very good. That said, while rooms 3, 4 and 5 have normal sized beds and are rooms with lovely views, rooms 1 and 2 are at the back of the property and have small metal framed single beds with a thin mattress. After a long day's golf or walking I have to say it was jolly uncomfortable. It would be such an easy change to make to those rooms. Also none of our party could get the wifi to work, not a big thing but worth noting if you needed it. Overall I would recommend this to budget travellers or golfers in the area. Buy some new beds and you'll get my 5th star.

Room Tip: Choose the rooms with a view for a better bed.

Thank you for your review. You forgot to mention that you are six foot five tall! Most people with special requirements would contact us in advance. The FREE wifi functions perfectly in certain areas of the house(the walls are four feet thick) Why didn't you ask?!?!

This is an old manse I gather. Our room was vast and the bathroom to die for! I can't remember when I last had such splendour in a hotel bedroom. It was matched by its comfort too and the welcome and food were equally good. Too bad we only had one night and an early departure to catch the ferry.

Room Tip: No 5 has a great view

We were a golfing party of 4. Location ideal for a Northern golfing tour (Brora, Golspie, Dornoch and Tain). Rooms were spotless and of a high standard (as was the well maintained house and large gardens). Good value for money especially given the standard of breakfast. Bill and Sue were very accommodating hosts and we would highly recommend this excellent B&B.

Mixed feelings on our stay. I booked four of us in for three nights as the first half a Highlands golf week. We arrived early evening as advised we would and were wet through having played en route in the rain - to GOLF View House.
The building and grounds were most impressive, clean, well maintained. The welcome was a "speech" on what "her majesty" (his wife?!) would and would not allow and although we totally understand that they do not want a nice room messed up etc at home we when we get wet we dry our clubs and clothing out ! In our opinion when using the name "Golf View" (and advertising to golfers) a more golf-friendly welcome should be forthcoming other than just a bowl of coloured balls, a picture of the course and wearing a golf shirt each day.
There was a drying room for jackets apparently but as our clubs were already (as instructed) left in an unlit, unheated and (worst) unlocked garage (to not dry) we simply "gave up" and luckily there was no more rain so we could leave most things in the car overnight thereafter.
Cooked breakfast was advertised as 8 to 9 - and I had pre-advised that we would be off out by 8 the first morning. Bill said no problem and although we couldn't have a full breakfast at 7.45 we could have eggs and bacon. Now IF he had said "no cooking before 8" we would have happily had "continental" and understood (and NOT complained on Tripadvisor as apparently someone at our second stay had previously!?), but as he cooked eggs and bacon we could not work out why he said we could definitely not have sausages as well . We were left wondering whether there is some local "religious curfew" on sausages before 8 ???? Anyway after 8 the "Full Monty" was great.
The rooms were nice enough BUT although room 1 was spacious as was the bathroom, room 2 was tiny and the bathroom likewise. Although lots of "nice twee touches" (dare I say that the ladies would appreciate) there was absolutely no room for two golfers to come in unpack, sleep, shower and dress ready for another days golf.
In conclusion, a nice enough, value for money B&B but the view of the golf course is not as good as the views of the house from the golf course and all in all I would not say that it is particularly a good base for golfers as we have stayed in far more "golf friendly" places both previously and for the following 3 nights (Glebe End at Nairn - even nicer in every respect but more importantly also very welcoming on how they could accommodate our needs rather than, as here, what we must not do !) .

Room Tip: If two sharing a twin room, go for room 1 over room 2

Bit bizarre and contradictory but good to note that the rooms were clean & tidy, the breakfast was good and we are good value for money. Pity you couldn't speak up when you were here!

Golf View, Tain is perfectly situated if you want to experience the many top golf courses in the Dornoch Firth region. You will not find better or more friendly hosts. Bill and Sue are very welcoming, the home has been lovingly restored and modernised without losing its period charm. We stayed 4 nights in room 2 which did not have views to the golf course or firth but looked out to a lovely pond. Breakfast menu features a really wide choice of cooked items as well as cereals, fruit, yoghurt etc. all served by our host Bill who always had time for a personal chat to each guest. We loved our stay at Golf View. It is probably the best B&B of the many we have stayed at over years of travelling. Cannot recommend it highly enough. You will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: One of the rooms with the view has a four poster bed. That could be romantic. All rooms are excellen...

Not much to add to all the other great reviews other than to say that Golf View is a lovely B&B and your hosts, Bill and Sue, are very welcoming and helpful. Many thanks.

NB As others report, Room 5 is very comfortable and spacious and has great views.

PS We had an excellent meal at Greens Market Restaurant.
