Went along for a meal with a friend. We both had starters, the asparagus and the chilli prawns .... These were shared and were very tasty, although a bit on the pricey side for what you got. For mains we ordered the fish pie and supreme of chicken wrapped in Parma ham with dauphenoise potatoes, along with a selection of vegetables and a salad. We sent the vegetables back as the pea pods were raw and also the fish pie as it was only warm in the centre. The chef seemed to have a penchant for cooked cheese as it seemed to be on both the potatoes and on top of the fish pie. The fish pie seemed to be lacking in actual fish but plenty of potato, the chicken supreme however was very tasty. The service was good, I would eat here again as I have never had a problem before, hopefully it was just a one off!

We've had several very nice dinners here in their lovely cosy dining room. The service is friendly and efficient and the menu has a good choice with local specialities featuring.

We had a good dinner at the royal hotel. The Food is good and the service too, the prices are reasonably. The Hotel/Restaurant is in the middle of Tain near at the Wemyss House.

We visited The Royal while we were out and about and stopped whilst passing! The food was really lovely and obviously cooked from fresh. I ordered fish and chips and my husband fish with potatoes! He never got his potatoes but the chips were lovely and home made so he wasn't really that bothered. The service was good and the staff pleasant. If we were in the area again we would be tempted to stay there. On the whole really good value for money.

We stopped here for our anniversary lunch on our way to the Isle of Lewis. It was out of the way but we wanted to visit the Glenmorangie Distillery. We both started with the lentil soup which was excellent. We both had the Sunday roast. Doug had lamb, which he enjoyed very much. I had the beef but was very disappointed; it was tough and there was so much of it as to be off putting. We ended up not having dessert. A tip for decaf coffee drinkers: bring your own Starbucks Via and ask for hot water, otherwise you'll end up with instant decaf which is pretty much undrinkable. There are very few places where you can get decaf and it's usually in the form of a latte (which suits me fine!). The town of Tain is charming and we enjoyed a stroll. Also, the coppers are friendly; we couldn't find the Hotel so we asked a cop we happened upon and he drove there with us following. Love the people of Scotland.
