Stayed one night here.
Entrance quite sad - no effort made with garden, planting etc. Almost turned around and went away! Staff friendly and helpful. Room absolutely adequate - good size, clean and especially delighted that we could open the windows! breakfast good.

We stayed two nights in this hotel and ate in the dinning room for both evenings. The from we were given was very spacious. Large bathroom with shower. Nicely decorated. However, the bed which was a king size bed was very hard and it felt like we were sleeping on a wooded plank. Aside from that we enjoyed the room. The food on the other hand was quite dismal. Our breakfast was standard fare. Nothing outstanding and the service was good. The coffee was terrible, just a pot filled with instant coffee. The dinners were worse. Had their crispy pork belly that was so tough you couldn't cut into it. My husband had the lamb shank which was dry and lacking flavor . The previous evening we had the beef and mushroom pie which was acceptable but my husband's fish dish was not good. Our meals were served with overlooked broccoli carrots and potatoes. There clearly was a uninspired chef on staff who had very little interest in the finished product that came out of his/her kitchen. What a shame. Local pubs are upping their game on the food side while this hotel is settling for substandard food.

My mother and I have lunch at the Morangie every Sunday. We have missed only 3 or 4 Sundays in 4 years. There is always an excellent selection of starters, from pate or smoked salmon and prawns to piping hot cream soups, a speciality of head chef Scott.

The carvery always consists of a choice from beef, chicken, ham and pork with lamb and turkey in season and substantial salmon fillets for the fish eaters.

There are usually around a dozen puddings to choose from and between October and April the chefs make apple crumble and custard for me which I am happy to share with others.

As there are at least 80 patrons for lunch on a quiet Sunday and around 150 on the special days like Mothers Day, clearly my opinion is shared by many others.

The carvery appeals to all ages and we small children with their parents and/or grandparents most Sundays and normally they are so well behaved one wouldn't know they were present.

The hotel is easy to find. Staff are OK, room was comfortable and warm - it was below freezing every night I stayed. The cooked breakfast was good. The mattress was comfy Dont drive up the "goods Only" drive as I did, the main entrance is to the left of the hotel when looking at it from the main road

Absolutely superb, this has to be one of my favourite hotels. I think when you find "Elizabeth" (as in the Queen Mum) signature across the entire page of an old visitors book it says it all. The rooms are extremely well appointed, everyone is very friendly and the staff go out of their way to cater for all demands. I can throroughly advise on the local Moules from Loch Dornoch - excellent , you can taste the sea and peaty/nut flavour. (Went down to watch them being hauled in). Wonderful food,Very relaxing and not being a golfer it is good to have a distillery on hand - the hotel bar does in deed stock a very catholic collection of fine malts. Tain itself has a history of silver smithing and worth looking into for any modern or antique collector. This certainly does it for me (we went to Skibo Castle and found it full of stuffed shirts) = their is no local competition to the standards demanded of this seemingly family run hotel. Well done.

Room Tip: They are all superb it just depends on the size you want.

As a group, we recently had the pleasure of staying at this hotel. Rooms are spacious and very comfortable. As we had an early start, breakfast was bacon and eggs or continental only if required at 7 am.....but due to their wonderful hospitality they went that extra mile and served us full breakfast which was greatly appreciated. Will definitely return.

The staff are friendly, the price is ok, the food is good and the surroundings and decorations shout tartan Victoriana - but that probably works for the plaid-wearing golfers and holiday-travellers who are the main clientele for this place.

Having said that, the place was empty - which suits me, I like peace and quiet - but for some inexplicable reason, we got a room (in an empty hotel) next to the receptionist who snored like a chainsaw all night long. Oh dear, and there wasn't even someone who could help us change room - because he was asleep and snoring.

This was unfortunate and unlikely to happen again.
The room is great value for the money and I would stay here again any time.

Room Tip: bring ear-plugs
