I stayed in Tain as I was working in Evanton and didn't fancy the hotels in Alness.

I would say this hotel was worth the extra 20 minutes drive in the morning and at night! The food was very tasty, gammon steak was my choice most nights as it was always really appetising and filling. The bar staff were nice and chatty and one of them, I don't recall her name, is stunning!!!

The rooms....well its an old building so the rooms decor is quite old, but thats not to say its bad, as its not. Cosy and large enough, I always had a double room, some bathrooms have a jacuzzi style bath which I never tried.

What let the hotel down was the lack of wireless or even wired internet access, only one of the rooms picks the wireless up at all, I chose this room quite a bit and they normally let me have it ! The owner tells me that they will be upgrading very soon, and in fact the wiring is in place.

Nice place. Nice grub. Nice staff.

From the moment we arrived all staff in the hotel were friendly and willing to do anything to help. The dinner and breakfast we had was lovely and there were so many places to relax in the hotel other than your room.

Tain itself doesn't seem to have much to offer rather than a few short walks but its a great location if you want to explore the north east side.

The only problem we had with the hotel was that it was so warm but keeping our windows open helped.

The staff really were amazing, especially when we said we were checking out at 5am they asked when we would like our breakfast! They couldn't of made our return home much easier!

There were plenty of places to park, even during our stay at the weekend. Was very nie to have free bottled water and shortbread every afternoon we got back too.

The Mansfield has apparently gone through a number of changes of ownership over the past years - whoever is in charge now is doing a brilliant job. The hotel is warm and welcoming - tasteful decoration in the bedroom and public rooms, of which there are several - bar, dining room, lounge. The bedroom had a very comfortable bed, a sofa and table, as well as the usual tea/coffee/shortbread etc. The view was amazing - out over the garden and down towards Tain and the sea. The bathroom was huge, with a jacuzzi bath, twin sinks and shower. Some have moaned about the showers, but we had no problem with it. The staff went out of their way to help us and were always around for a chat - extra little touches that we didn't expect made it very special. The food in the restaurant was very good, and at times excellent - smoked venison with celeriac is making my mouth water even now... In terms of location, the hotel is 2 minutes walk from the centre of Tain (such as it is), but I guess it is a lot quieter than somewhere like the Royal Hotel which is right on the main street. In short, this is a really good hotel, with great staff, and we warmly recommend it.

The castle is not huge, but its cosy and the room we stayed in was large and pleasant. We had a jacuzzi which we had specially requested, and its great we got it. The shower however was a disaster, just could not get the mix of water right! The TV had exactly 5 channels and was on a low table which was not in clear sight from the bed. The food was OK, but the staff was very helpful and warm. As for the wifi, apparently it worked 'outside' the room, but we were unable to connect either through our laptops or our iphones.

We arrived at the Manfield Castle Hotel and were instantly happy with our choice of hotel. Straight away, there was a warm welcome from all the Staff which made us feel very welcomed. We were then shown around the hotel then to our delightful hotel room.

We were very happy with our stay. All meals were lovely and the staff made it a fantastic stay.

We will definately be back!

We stopped by chance, and at reception they gave us a great price for a one night stay, as the hotel was nearly empty. Comfortable roomy room, great heating, queen bed, free wifi. It always puzzles us why in most hotels, there is only three channels to look at. At home in NZ there is always 10 or more to choose from.
We had a lovely evening meal at the hotel, as the town was a little far to walk, although it was a little pricey.
If you are on a small budget, and like a bit of old world elegance, give it a try in the off season.
