This is my first review for a hotel property and I am sitting in the Busta House as I type this now. We stayed two nights and it was everything we expected and more. Service was excellent, the staff basically went overboard with the small town hospitality. We weren't pampered but felt like members of the family instead. Thank you Arianne and Granville.

The property itself is a few hundred years old but damely and sturdy. Rooms are clean and comfortable, we had a good sleep - the best dreams we had were when we woke up though. Our room overlooked a vast expanse of the bay and to watch the sunrise over the islands is one thing I will not forget. You should try the food at the restaurant too, and come down early to have a chat with the owners. We were particularly surprised to know the story of their resident ghost, but we did not see "her" at all during our stay.

What we did see though, on our second morning here, was a huge herd of more than a hundred Shetland ponies wearing knitted sweaters greeting us when we looked out our window in "fair Isle". They were delightfully lined up in rows on the lawn waiting to get "dressed up" by contestants of The amazing Race, who had to match the right knitwear design to the pony's mane. Sadly I doubt we'd see it again, as a staff told me it was a one-off event for the American travel show.

The hotel is ideal for exploring around the region of Brae, Shetland Island and Esha Ness. I am unable to write reviews for these places as they are not listed on TripAdvisor, but God are they beautiful. Apart from The Amazing Race contestants (they caused a minor traffic jam on the one-car lane to Esha Ness Lighthouse), we did not meet anyone from mid-morning till the sun went down on the roads that day. Truly an idyllic, isolated piece of heaven - this is one for the kids!

Room Tip: Our favourite view was the one from Fair Isle room.

Nice but dated hotel in need of some updating in the rooms (some fixtures and fittings in need of repair eg fan extractor in bathroom not working, toilet flush handle loose, the single glazed windows have condensation regularly). We stayed in the Bressay Room. The room was a bit old fashioned and quite small for a double room but did have a great sea view. The garden is partly wild flowers which have gone to seed, partly cultivated. The grass was being cut while we were there. The staff were very friendly, extremely hardworking and helpful, service was good and the food was excellent. The waitress was very polite, attentive and courteous. We spent two nights here and ate both times in the hotel. The evening meals were served in either the bar or restaurant. The restaurant is medium sized but had an intimate ambiance, candles on the tables, nice music etc. Breakfast was also of a high quality with a good selection including smoked salmon and scrambled eggs which was delicious.

Room Tip: We only saw one room which had a nice view of the sea but was a bit small and dated.

We stayed here for 2 nights. Good room, nice location, wifi. Food good especially dinners.
Staff on the whole good but some (new?) waiting staff lacked a bit of experience.
Lots of steps so maybe not so good for those with mobility difficulties.

Had two dinners at Busta on our recent visit and thoroughly enjoyed the food. The menu is extensive and varied with something to suit all tastes. The delicious food was well prepared and presented. Service was friendly and attentive. In all, an enjoyable experience and one which I would quite happily repeat.

Had a few meals here and also stayed a couple of times. Staff are always welcoming an food is great. We did have one slight disaster with a meal but it got corrected and all was good after we got our drinks for free and a bottle of wine. We have stayed in the Fair Isle room, which is nice and big but the door going up to another bit with stairs is not great for trying to sleep as its always getting slammed shut with staff and feet always stomping up- unless its up to an extra bit for rooms? Could do with getting a new shower in also as it was very slow on power and not to hot. All in all, a great place to stay an eat. Don't let this few small bad points put you off.

Room Tip: Fair Isle is a nice room with big bed and a view over the sea and into garden. Although, not to good with the said door being slammed/people going up stairs but don't let it put you off.
