“Autumn Gold trip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 October 2015

The tour was excellent and although there were few birds around our guide made sure we saw everything there was to see. He was sensitive to the differing needs and wishes of the people within the group and managed to make all feel their needs were a priority. The hotels used were excellent (Spiggie and Baltasound) and the balance between locations could not be better. Well done Shetland Wildlife!

“Wonderful walking week with lots of wildlife and expert guide”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 July 2015

My fourth visit to Shetland and third trip with Shetland Wildlife and it just does not get any better! Wendy our guide was wonderful. Not only did she go out of her way to us experience as much as we could (otter hunt at 6.15 am! and Ceilidh in Unst) but she is so knowledgeable and has so much information to hand during the walks that every day was a very special day. From the puffins in Hermanness to the harbour porpoises at Yell ferry port to the seals everywhere(!), it was a fantastic week. Hugh and Michelle were on hand for any assistance. My luggage was left behind in Aberdeen and they sorted me out with coats, fleeces and waterproofs to help me out until the luggage arrived. What's more, we had wall-to-wall sunshine all week! Holidays just don't get any better than this!

“Outstanding wildlife week with expert guides”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 July 2015

Our first visit to Shetland and we can't wait to go again. Shetland Wildlife is an excellent company to travel with, the guides (Hugh and Wendy) are very friendly and have expert local knowledge and a deep understanding of nature and wildlife - they know just where to go to find particular species and the best times to see them. They are flexible and will vary the itinerary depending on the weather. And the hotels (Spiggie, and Baltasound on Unst) were good with excellent food and friendly staff. Highlights; early morning boat trip to the cliffs at Noss to see gannets, guillemots, seals and more; the Isle of Mousa for Black Guillemots by day and Storm petrels at midnight; wildflowers everywhere, and some very rare ones that our guides took us to see; puffins at Sumburgh Head, Corncrake on south mainland; Great Skuas and gannets on Unst; sunsets at 11pm; and sharing wildlife experiences within the group. Hermaness is a special place and it was good to have enough time to enjoy the magnificent scenery and wildlife, notably Red-throated Divers, and Fumars. One of the best holidays I have ever been on.

“'Focus on Shetlad' Worlshop - Brilliant Photography and Wildlife”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 July 2015

This was my 5th trip with Shetland Wildlife and my third 'Focus on Shetland' photography workshop. As always organisation was first class and the hotels _ Baltasound and Spiggie - were excellent. The whole team at Shetland Wildlife clearly care to ensure that everyone who goes on their trips have a high quality experience - nothing ever seems to be too much trouble.

The Focus on Shetland workshops are led by Hugh who willingly shares his considerable expertise and experience of both photography and Shetland wildlife - ensuring the group always ended-up in the right place to have the best opportunity to see wildlife and capture that special image. I'm still working through the many thousands of images I captured during the trip and am delighted at how many have that 'wow' factor! Over the past three years the advice, guidance and opportunities provided by these trips has clearly improved the quality of my photography.

I enjoy travelling with Shetland Wildlife so much that I had booked next year's trip even before this year's was over! They really are that good.

“Infinite variety”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 July 2015

This was our 4th or 5th experience of Ultimate Shetland. That in itself tells you what a fantastic experience it is. Each time has been so different in so many ways and each time we have learned more about wildlife. The trip provides intellectual stimulation as well as a feast for the senses: Shetland is a wild and beautiful place which will continue to haunt your memory. We cannot fault Hugh's organisation and attention to detail. He and those who work with him go out of their way to ensure that their travellers get the best out of their trip. If you are a birding novice, as we were when we took our first trip, this is an excellent way to gain confidence; if you are more knowledgeable, you are likely to see things which will delight and even surprise you. You may sometimes need woolly vests in June, but we also sat on the beach in shirt sleeves! Thank you to Hugh and his team, to the staff of Baltasound Hotel, Spiggie Hotel and to our jovial fellow travellers. We are already looking forward to our next visit for Autumn migration.
