This is in a brilliant location, and the staff are so lovely and helpful. The drawbacks are in the rooms themelves. Our window could have done with a wipe, the bed was the squidgiest ever and the bathroom although clearly recently renovated was redone in a late 1970s style, with anaglypta wallpaper at the top of the walls, shell-style bathroom suite and the twee-est shower screen ever. Everything worked, it just looked like it was transported from the 70s.
The restaurant food was very much old style pub grub. I had perfectly fine scampi and chips but my friend ordered scallops which basically came up as scallops with chips, vegetables and what seemed to be gravy. Not inedible, just a little bit odd. Service in the restaurant was also above and beyond the usual.
The staff are the hotel's greatest asset. So helpful, capable and friendly. I can't praise them enough.
