3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 June 2014

Rooms very tired needing redecorated but clean staff very friendly food very good £5.60 for a glass of wine and £1 for a very small glass of soda not to be repeated. Then food bill came for £30.10 more than what we had ordered.

Booked this hotel through Groupon and had no problem getting the dates we wanted.
Its a bit of a walk from the train station, but it was a lovely day so allowed us to take our time. We found the hotel without difficulty and it looked like the photos we had seen.
For what we needed it for, basically a bed, the hotel was ideal. The decor needs some upgrading and the floor boards need a bit of replacing as they are quite squeaky. Think the hotel should play more on its history and remove some of the more random pictures on the walls.
Breakfast was filling and delicious (toasters take forever) and the food in the bar is well worth the price.
Staff were friendly and efficient.

Bought a voucher for this hotel and tried 3 times to book but no availability for Saturday nights. On the 4th attempt I opted to go for a Sunday night instead and the lady asked me if I wanted to know the rate and I replied that it was ok, I had a voucher. She replied that the date that the booking had to be made was by 17th May, which obviously was in the small print that I hadn't noticed, even thought you could book up to 31st July 2014.
No discussion, you just can't use that voucher - end of!!
Will I ever book this hotel again? No! and neither will any of my friends or family - don't think they have ever heard of customer service!

My wife and I have just returned from a mini road trip of scotland and we stayed here 1 night in room 5.
It was a large room but it is tired, saying that though the value for money was fantastic, £39 bed and breakfast.
We ate dinner here also and I give thd food a thumbs up, had the fish which was excellent, the staff were all very nice.
If u just want a bed for the night with no frills at a decent price then go for it.

My wife and I with a group of friends again with a groupon or itison deal cant remember for a 2 night stay and this must be our 6th or 7th visit, a few new faces to staff but no changes to the friendliness of them all, They are always willing to help you with whatever you need from directions issues or whatever, again they are firefighting with an old hotel in much need of restoration and updating, but put that aside the food is excellent from breakfast menu to lunch and evening meal fantastic food is served here all times of the day, we love the atosphere friendliness and the food and the charms of the place that date back 200 years and it shows that`s why we will come here every chance we get, so dont be put off, theres always going to be some calamity its all part of the fun

Room Tip: Rooms on the front face give good views but its a Good base to travel from but has some great shops...

We returned home today after a 2 night Groupon deal which was good value. The staff were extremely pleasant and very helpful with one lady in particular going out of her way to obtain information about the ferry to Larne which sails from Troon. We had only the one meal in the bar (included in the price of our stay) which was very good indeed and served piping hot. We would have eaten there the second night but we had a meal on the ferry on our way back from Northern Ireland. All tables were booked so that in itself, is a good sign as far as the food is concerned. Our room was was ok but no headboard which is a bit strange and unfortunately, the bed wasn't made, room cleaned or bins emptied when we returned from being away all day Sunday. The bathroom was large and clean except for rather dirty grout between the tiles and no water came out of the cold tap. There was also a very unpleasant smell in the bathroom and eventually my husband sussed out that a bird had built it's nest at the output of the Xpelair which wasn't working. He could hear the chicks chirping and we reckon this is where the smell came from! We did report it although it is going to make it quite difficult for the hotel to fix while birds are in the nest. A very unusual problem. Top marks for the staff. The hotel is old but that's ok although it could be brightened up a bit. It's in a good location and parking is in front of the hotel although we took the bus. I'm marking the service down because our room wasn't tended to during our stay.

my wife and i booked this hotel with a groupon deal as we like the seaside town of troon . as we entered the hotel we were greeted at the reception by a welcoming member of staff and given our keys , to our surprise we got a great room with views out onto the sea and beach . the room was very spacious and had a double bed and single bed in one room and two single beds in the other , if its any help our room was number nine on the top floor , the room was spotlessly clean and had all the things you need to relax , food was very reasonably priced , as was the drinks , and breakfast was a most enjoyable full on English ! . now i am not saying the hotel is of Waldorf standard , but for what we paid for the hotel , and got a free breakfast , it ticks all the boxes with us ! . there are plenty of things to do around the hotel and great walks for both children and dog walkers alike . thanks again to all members of staff ! , and we look forwards to staying at the anchorage hotel again soon ! .

Room Tip: all front rooms have a sea view
