A bit dated which is reflected in the rooms. Comfortable enough but could go with a makeover - staff were generally helpful and pleasant. Food was ok in the evening but breakfast was not so good. Would probably consider other places if I came back to Biggar but hopefully they take on board these comments and look to improve.

Once you see past the exterior of the hotel the accommodation is excellent. The bar has just been renovated and was beautiful. The room was huge and very clean. The toilet would benefit from a net curtain cause if you didn't draw the blind down all the time you could see outside into the garden. Overall very good and would stay again

After having to make a last minute booking, managed to book in here and even managed to check-in early in order to make it to another engagement. The staff were extremely welcoming and accommodating both at check-in and during breakfast. Room was comfortable and very clean with a nice big bathroom however the walls are quite thin and you can hear people in the neighbouring rooms and hallway. One slight problem was the heating was on in the room and control seemed to be broken on it so we couldn't turn it down - explained this to the staff and they said they will look into it. Would recommend this hotel.

Only stayed the one night but wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. The staff are friendly and efficient and the food and service was first class. The hotel has probably seen better days and could do with a refurbishment but to be fair the place has character and does everything it needs for a 1 or 2 night stay, there is also a nice pub attached to the hotel and anywhere in Biggar is a short walk from the front door.Perfect place to stay for me and the amount of locals using the restaurant says a lot about the food,it was very busy.
Having read the reviews that complain about this hotel and having now been it is clear that some people expect a 5 star penthouse for the low price it has cost to stay at the Elphinstone. This is a small B and B/Hotel in a small Scottish town and is excellent value and service for the price charged.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a window, the Wifi isn't very good and mobile/cell phone coverage is hit and miss

Room was tiny and dated. Front door would bang from 7am waking us up. Breakfast was extremely poor. Sausage, black pudding and haggis slices were halved and quartered! Potato scone was burnt. Tomato sauce was so watered down with vinegar that I couldn't eat it. Dirty plate and things floating in milk jug. Service was very poor. Young girls who didn't really know what to do. Good location although not worth the money!
