We had our wedding at The Royal on 7/9/13. From my initial enquiry, even up untill now that the wedding is over, Fiona at the hotel has been fantastic. Fiona was very quick to respond to any queries and her efficiency was outstanding. She even came in on her day off to have a meeting with us as we were unable to make it any other time.

We had our day a little bit different - meal first, up to Stirling Castle to have the ceremony, then, back to the Royal.

The hotel accommodated our request no problem and assisted with our guest's rooms on both the Friday and Saturday night. Guests got early check in to allow time to get ready for the 2pm start time.

We also asked for a pre-meal the night before the wedding at late notice, which also was not a problem. Food was lovely!

On the day, the hotel staff could not have done any more for us - everyone was so friendly, pleasant and helpful.

Ava was our main point of contact on the day and she was very reassuring and attentive....she done an excellent job. We were given a backdrop for the reception at night which was a lovely surprise!

Everything ran like clockwork, we didnt need to think about anything. Food and drinks were perfect, night time buffet went down well - nothing left!!! (as we had requested something different, again, no problem with this change).

We couldn't put into words how happy we were with the day and the level of service we received. Absolutely fantastic and we would recommend this venue for a wedding without any hesitation.

We spent two nights at the Royal Hotel the room was quite large but the floor made so much noise when you walked on it you would wake up anyone else sleeping in the room next door as you walked across the floor. Both the room and bathroom were clean and neat if not a little tired but as I have mentioned, relative to other places we have stayed the room size was excellent.

The breakfast was average - we eat at a pub down the road for the evening meal so I cannot comment on the restaurant food.

They have wireless but the only place I could get a connection was on the ground floor in the lounge or the bar ... it did not reach the second floor where our room was located.

The staff were very helpful and efficient.

One very annoying feature was they seemed to be playing the same background music all the time ... breakfast, midday and evening. A very depressing CD which droned on!!!

PS You will love the lift if you like old machinery. It is a manual lift as you might see in a 1930's movie.

This is a restaurant review, I live locally therefor have no need to stay here. Had friends and colleagues who have stayed here though in 2013 and none were impressed though sadly. Disappointed as this is a reflection on me for suggesting it.

I ate there with family on the 1st Sept as a guest, glad I wasn't paying as food was only just ok. It was a fixed price menu, selection looked good but would criticise the need for additional supplements on what should be standard items. Supplement on cheese and crackers was heavy considering what you actually get.

Service started off ok but then fell off the edge of a cliff towards the end of our meal. We were just finishing our dessert when the bill was placed on the table. It was around 7:45pm so there wasn't a time issue. We all found this rather rude. We did stay on for coffees and whiskies and ended up with multiple pieces of paper for our bill.

We were being good to ourselves with large whiskies which is normal for us...the whisky was over priced which was a shame as the food was generally good value.

Being local...a bit disappointed as this is on my doorstep.

We arrived at the hotel to find that a wedding was being held in the hotel reception room. Therefore the receptionist informed us that they would put us in room 31, which is on the 2nd floor and away from the noise. As there would be a disco in the hotel until around 12.30am. We didn't have a problem at all with this at all.
Room 31 is a family room with a double & 2 single beds, tv & bathroom. The room was a bit dated & could do with some improvements where the décor was concerned. However, there was an excellent view of the Wallace monument.
The hotel is located is the centre of Bridge of Allan, approx. 5 miles from Stirling. The town is very pleasant with a small selection of shops & pubs.
The meals in the hotel are very nice. With the bed, breakfast & evening meal package we were entitled to £15 meal allowance each from the menu. We all ordered something different from the menu and each was delicious. Even my Son who is a fussy eater managed to clean his plate! The deserts are equally as nice, cheesecake was to die for. Don't forget to mention the deal on the internet, free bottle of wine with your meal : http://www.royal-stirling.co.uk/Eating_and_Drinking/Sample_Menus.php?pg=2084
The only problems we encountered was the fire alarm going off at 12.30am, luckily it was a false alarm. Obviously this couldn't be helped!
I went to run a bath the next morning, the hot tap would not turn off & was spilling out boiling hot brown water. My husband tried to turn the tap off, but failed also. I had to rush down to reception & ask somebody to come up. A nice Spanish man, whom I have named 'Manwell', said the thread had gone on the tap, as it hadn't been used for a while. He said that's why the water was brown, because most people took showers instead!
To wrap this up I would say that the hotel is ok, needs the lady from the hotel inspector to modernise it up & fix the bathroom taps. A few more toiletries wouldn't break the bank! Friendly staff & lovely food, but would not return unless updated.

Room Tip: Room 31 is quiet family room if you don't mind the décor.

Dear Guest,

Thank you so much for taking the time to post a review. We appreciate your feedback in order to improve our services and products within the hotel. We would like to apologise for the fire alarm test you encountered and hope it wasn’t too disruptive. We alerted maintenance with your issue as soon as our member of staff noted the tap thread and it has allowed us to improve our services within room 31.

Thank you again for your comments and we hope the next time you are in the area, you will let us know at reception so we can offer you the best rate possible for you and your family.

Kindest Regards,

The Management at The Royal Hotel & The Royal Ivy

This is based entirely on the wedding ceremony and reception. W did not stay because the reviews of the rooms are very bad, I know this to be true as my friend stayed earlier this year.
Our friends daughter had a civil ceremony that was the best I have been to, the registrar was charming and professional the room was lovely and the seating just perfect. We had canapés and bubbly then a lovely homely rather than gourmet meal and you knew it was all cooked fresh. The service was quick and courteous in the bars and during the wedding breakfast.
I would return to eat but not stay.
