Our day tour with Hugh was fantastic. He was so accommodating from the start. He picked us up at our hotel, and off we went. We were truly lucky with the weather (dates of travel to Lewis June 7-8). It was sunny, which gave us spectacular views and photo opportunities. The tour was with a small group, so there was more opportunity to get to know other visitors. We stopped at the Butt of Lewis near a lighthouse at the top of the island. The view was breathtaking. Hugh gave us all plenty of time to explore each area we stopped at. He had great stories to share and was a perfect guide. We stopped to see the Black House, and an old broch built in 2 AD. The pace of the tour day was perfect.
The most memorable stop for us was the Callanish Standing Stones. Whatever pictures you can see of them on line are no comparison to seeing them in person. It was to see these stones that brought us to Lewis. We flew from Inverness just to see them. Everything else was a delightful bonus. Anyone who is fascinated by these standing stones, forget Stonehenge and come to Lewis and book your tour with Hugh! My only regret is that we did not stay an extra day to tour Harris. I truly wish we would have. I would recommend eating a big breakfast and bring a lunch or snack. This is much to do on this tour, and a restaurant stop is not one of them.
Thanks again, Hugh for the wonderful memories! I hope was can return one day and see Harris too!
