We stayed here for a night having travelled from Australia to attend a family wedding. Started by eating in the hotel restaurant Solas the day before, lovely food especially the (obligatory) scallops and black pudding. Due to lack of rooms we were in a B+B the night before the wedding but despite this the hotel facilitated us getting into our room early so we could change and prepare for the nuptials. Really appreciated this. Wedding reception was excellent - staff bent over backwards to help and accommodate lead by Tom the manager, whose obvious positivity and enthusiasm shone bright and clearly rubbed off on all the staff. The wedding reception room looked divine, the food was superb (roast beef was amazing) and we all had a fabulous time. My young daughter particularly enjoyed her dances with Tom and his colleagues! Sadly had to leave to return to Australia the very next day - breakfast was tasty and extensive and the room for four was very reasonably priced. Great experience and thanks to all. Good to see the Caber firing on all cylinders!
After checking in to the room we discovered we had no control over the heating. The room was cold and after phoning reception we were told that the heating was turned on at specific times. We were quickly offered a portable heater ( I think this may be a common occurrence) and this did help despite being noisy. The mattress in the room was covered in hair and the bed sheet did not appear to have been freshly made. The dusty room and bathroom in desparate need of a good scrub did not make for a pleasant stay.
We phoned to reserve a table for dinner and after arriving, waited 30 minutes to be served our drinks. It took a further 45 minutes before we were served our meals. The food was delicious but the slow service meant we wanted out as quickly as possible. As soon as we wanted to pay there were plenty of staff insterested, it's a shame the same speedy service was not available during our meal.
Would not return to this hotel.
Large, comfortable rooms with excellent beds and spacious corridors and public spaces. Excellent food in the restaurant and very good choices at breakfast. Cheerful, helpful staff. Arrived soaking wet with bicycles and left restored!
We stayed at Cabarfeidh Hotel while touring with a coach party.
Our room was very comfortable and cleaned excellently.
We stayed two nights. We put 'do not disturb' on the door because we didn't need more towels. But when we returned from a day out, there were clean towels, biscuits and beverages left outside the door.
We ate dinner in a separate room but had breakfast in the main dining room. The food was really good.
A special thank has to go to the staff, they are superbly trained.
Before we left on the Sunday we saw a lot of family's arriving for lunch.
We hope to return to this lovely hotel.
The rooms in this hotel are a decent size and absolutely fine for a couple of night stay. They are not however anything special and are a little dated. The bathroom in particular in our room needed revamped. The shower sprayed water over the whole room when it was turned on and the temperature was nearly impossible to adjust!! Don't expect much of a view either - particularly if your room is at the back. The only way I can describe the bar behind the reception was an old man's bar!
The reception area was nice and the restaurant was nicely decorated, light and modern. Breakfast was great. There was a good selection of 'buffet' style breakfast, plus cooked food to order. There were a couple of large bus tours staying whilst we were there and then service in the restaurant was still good and attentive. There is plenty parking.
Choice is very limited in this town which I think unfortunately means that sometimes lack of effort. Perhaps with the luxury Lews Castle hotel opening next year, it will mean that other hotels in Stornoway have to improve to compete with their competition.
