“Excellent B&B”
Reviewed 22 July 2012

We only stayed one night at Braighe House, but would happily have stayed longer. Alison was very welcoming, helpful and informative, our room was excellent, as was breakfast. Loads of off-road parking, nice situation outside the twon, with a nice sea view.

Warm welcome and a modern, well equipped, comfortable room. Great hosts and a very enjoyable complimentary glass of port enjoyed in the lovely guest lounge with a clear view of the ocean.. Comfortable bed and a breakfast worthy of five stars all by itself! The packed lunch was fresh and had enough items to give it a real 'picnic' feel. We'd go back.

I stayed here for 2 nights whilst in the area on business. The location is a little out of the centre but it looks onto the sea - and the owners have a car hire business for people without transport. Who wants to stay in the centre all the time anyway? The hosts are also very helpful in arranging other transport.

The B& B is very tasteful and everything is of a fine quality. Home made porridge with fresh fruits; salmon and eggs etc for breakfast; fluffy towels; lotions and potions ( I was full of cold). The hosts are lovely. If I was a tourist, Id be delighted with this choice of accommodation...go on... sample a little bit of the Island's hospitality; taste the fine food; feel special and valued. There are hotels everywhere and they merge into one after a while. You wont get many chances like this to make a good memory.

We only stayed for one night, on a roadtrip around the Highlands & Islands, and wish we could have stayed for a week! By far the best accommodation of our holiday.

The lady who runs it was a perfect host: upon arrival, check-in was slick and polished, and she even recommended and booked a restaurant for us for dinner. It's the little things like this which make an experience perfect.

The accommodation itself was flawless - the room was lovely, the bathroom wonderful, and the communal areas were finished to a very high standard.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this B&B.

For those of you who have not travelled on the western isles, let's face it, most of the B & Bs in Scotland are quite expensive. That said, Braighe House was a B & B I would go back to in a heartbeat. Yes, it's outside the epicenter of Stornaway (but if you have transportation, that's not a problem) but nonetheless a great location and easy to get around. The coastal area of Stornaway (by the harbour) is not exactly oversized, so it's not a problem getting where you need to go. Braighe House overlooks the sea, (I didn't find it "uninteresting" - the sea is, the sea!), the rooms are well furnished and comfortable, we had a great night's sleep and the breakfast was incredibly good. John and Alison were fine hosts, and frankly I could have relaxed there for a week. Bathroom facilities were also good.

Room Tip: Request a Sea View, but our room overlooked some pretty fields and was fine.

Braighe House is a slightly upmarket guest house or B&B. We did not like the location, quite a way out of Stornoway on a busy main road with a very exposed and uninteresting view over the sea. There were no restaurants within walking distance and because dinner was not catered for this necessitated a taxi in and out of town for two evenings in order to have a glass of wine with our meal.

Our room was at the front of the house and was buffeted by strong winds and the attendant noise for the duration of our stay. Combined with the noise from the road we found a good night's sleep impossible. The room was comfortable and nicely decorated with a small but adequate bathroom.

Breakfast was really very good. Nicely presented and cooked with care. The packed breakfast we had due to a very early ferry crossing was poor in comparision and a big disappointment.

The resident's lounge was nicely decorated but, for me, had the feel of a magazine page ... all show and little comfort. It was just too 'perfect' to enable one to relax. An honesty bar would have been a welcome addition. A glass of complimenary port was available should one so desire though.

I think the thing which really put me off the place was the excessive attention to cleanliness and neatness. A book left by the side of the bed was put into a drawer. A hairbrush left on the dressingtable was put into a drawer. I feel that the room I pay for is my space and nobody should be putting my personal items away and tidying up behind me. Make the bed, yes. Clean the bathroom, yes. But that's it.

I will not go back.

We stayed for one nigth prior to returning to the mainland. The house is impeccable and beautifully decorated but .... Our room was rather small, expecially when you have two large suitcases and other bags. I have stayed in many B&Bs over the years but question the 5 star rating which also reflects the price you pay. Breakfast was really good; a minor drawback for some might be the location as you are out of Stronoway and you cannot walk into town.
