“The perfect place for a break”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 November 2013 via mobile

Whilst the storm battered the island I was safely tucked up in this very welcoming and snug b&b. Linda very kindly cooked me a beautiful full Scottish breakfast at sillyoclock to make sure I got to the ferry on time. Highly recommended.

I was made very welcome by the hosts, Linda and Tim and found the room to be very spacious, comfortable and well supplied. The bathroom was also clean and homely.

As I had cycled to the B and B and was cycling further the following day I was provided with a bountiful breakfast and fuelled for the day, while enjoying a friendly chat with the hosts.

I would have liked to have stayed longer and would definitely recommend!

My sister and I stayed for 2 nights at this B+B from 27th to 28th July 2013. Maolbhuide is situated in a beautiful, quiet location with stunning views. Our hosts Tim and Linda were very friendly and welcoming. The accommodation was very spacious and clean. The bathroom was separate from the large bedroom and we also had our own private sitting room with TV, books and games. The beds were very comfortable and we both slept well. Breakfast was delicious with plenty of choice. We highly recommend this B+B and would stay again if we return to Mull.

Yes, episode 3, as indeed, since our first memorable stay with Tim and Linda back in 2009, this summer's was our 3d stay at Maolbhuidhe and there will undoubtedly be episode 4, and 5 and………
I must say that this year, either Tim or Linda, or both, had done a particularly great job conspiring with the Ministry for Fine Weather Conditions as we had an absolutely amazing weather. Tim and Linda remain their most welcoming hosts. The room which was already perfect underwent a little revamp since our last time here: different location for the large bed and a new carpet. Always that beautiful "still life" arrangements of pebbles and shells at the window, and from there, your eyes still meet a view that remains as stunning as ever. Always a delight to have breakfast (and what a breakfast) in the kitchen chatting away with Linda, while keeping an eye on the bird feeder as you never know which lovely feathery creature may turn up.Then you get more informations on the said creature from either Linda or Tim who are a fount of knowledge about the island. And they are also the most amazing rescuers when your car lets you down in the middle of the road during your stay on Mull, as happened to us 2 years ago.
I was thus extremely surprised to say the least, when I read the review just before mine. Can't people openly and politely tell their hosts of the "problem" to try and solve it together instead of saying nothing and then write a bad review. Honestly, even if there was a musty smell—and I won't take into account the supposed saggy and uncomfortable mattress because I used it and I can say that it is not saggy—this is not enough to give a "poor" rating to an accommodation.
Anyway, as far as my friend and I are concerned, we're more than looking forward to our episode 4 at Maolbhuidhe !

I would have liked to give this B&B a better review given that other travellers had a good experience. Pluses: good location, good hospitality from Linda and Tim, good breakfast, room was very large, brightly lit room and bathroom. Minuses: carpet and bed linens had a musty smell, bed mattress was saggy and uncomfortable. They had the impression of being leftover furniture. Black-out blinds would have been nice.

Naturally we're very disappointed when anyone has a less than 100% experience at Maolbhuidhe.
This couple, with a baby, stayed one night (we were booked for the following nights). It's unfortunate that they did not mention any of their dislikes while they were with us. They wrote in our Guest Book: "We had a very nice stay at your B&B. Thank you very much. Beautiful house and hospitality".
Musty Smell: Smells can be very personal. All we can say is that we can't detect it, and that no one else has commented.
Mattress saggy: We don't understand this. It's a Dunlopillo mattress which is supported dead flat by a wooden slat frame underneath. It could be described as firm. Many guests say they've had one of their best night's sleep ever.
Left-over furniture: The wardrobe is left over Edwardian, and the dressing table left-over 1920's Art Deco. Guilty as charged.
Black-out blinds: A useful suggestion. It does get light quite early in summer.

First impression of Maolbhuidhe was the brilliant website (fantastic work Tim). So easy to use and gave us the exact information that we needed. So helpful. On arrival we were welcomed very warmly by Linda and immediately we felt at home. The accommodation was all on ground level which suited us very well. Very spacious rooms. We were extremely well cared for and the breakfasts were lovely. We felt that we had known Tim and Linda for years. On leaving we felt we were leaving old friends behind and were very sad to go. All being well, we do hope to go back one day. We would highly recommend a stay here to anyone. Tim and Linda are a lovely couple. Jean and Bob Folks
