We had a wonderful week at the cottage and it was exactly what we expected, peaceful and tranquil with some friendly farm animals for company. We went with the idea of having a break away from it all and weren’t disappointed, the cottage was very well equipped for home cooking, the wood burning stove did a wonderful job of making the place toasty (it was November after all) and it was far enough away from Tobermory to be peaceful but close enough to be able to eat out a few times. We’d highly recommend Macgochans for good pub grub and a decent drop of beer and also the Mishdish restaurant in the Mishdish Hotel for the yummy mussels. The cottage is an excellent base for exploring the Island by car and also we managed a couple of very pleasant walks around Aros Park and Calgary Beach where we saw seals, otters deer and more eagles than you could shake a stick at. We’d love to think that we could return and explore further
Erray Cottage is a cosy, clean and well equipped cottage. It is larger than it appears in photos. Just outside Tobermory, it is on the edge of a working farm. Surrounded by cows, sheep, ponies and the cockeral! Two rams in the field opposite enjoy having a head rub. We saw deer from the living room window! Tobermory has some lovely places to eat out and the bakery is great for sandwiches and cake. Highly recommend a trip to Iona. Saw lots of wildlife including - otters, seals, fallow deer and red deer. Hope we can return soon.
Had a lovely week at Erray Cottage , far enough away from the main town to enjoy the surrounding countryside but close enough to have an enjoyable walk to and from the restaurants and shops. Highly recommend Macgogans and the seafood chowder ( had to go back 3 times because our 9 year old loved it so much). If you don't want to go too far there is plenty to see and buy!! browsing round the shops in Tobermory.
The cottage itself is a home from home with all the amenities you would need for a comfortable and relaxing stay, very clean and welcoming. For those who cannot do without it the wifi is excellent and you will also find this FOC in the restaurants in Tobermory. Look out for the lovely Red Setter who lives in the farm next door and also the Tobermory cat! We saw him, honestly!!
Would recommend Duarte Castle, Calgery Beach and a visit to Iona
We booked Erray Cottage for 7 nights. When we arrived I was pleased to find the cottage was much bigger than it looked on photographs. The heating was on and there were biscuits, milk, tea and sugar waiting. The cottage is really lovely inside with large, bright and airy rooms and a wrap-around garden with beautiful views. It is also spotlessly clean and well equipped, with pretty much everything we needed during our stay. There was a slight problem with the heated towel rail, but not enough to raise the issue at the time. I left a note for the housekeeper and after we had left, Andrea contacted me straight away so that she could have it fixed. Erray Cottage is next door to a farm, which has chickens, cows, sheep and a little black and white cat who sleeps in the barn! There are some beautiful horses too. It was interesting when the horse whisperer arrived! We took the trip with Staffa Tours to Lunga and The Treshnish Isles. Lots of cute puffins and other seabirds, Finagal's Cave and dolphins swimming around our boat, "Angus" on the way back. We took the bus and the CalMac to Oban one day and took several walks around Aros Park. We had to take in the distillery too! We were surprised to find that the Highland Games, which we enjoyed, were on - at the Golf Course at the bottom of our drive! There is no sign saying that it is a private road and so most days we had lost walkers and drivers appearing, to which we giggled "Get off my land!" The weather was good pretty much all week and we were often able to sit in the garden and watch the farm animals in the fields - and an occasional chicken visitor! It was a 2 mile round trip to the far end of the town and harbour - Ledaig. There is a local fishmonger on the main top road and a well-stocked Co-op in the harbour and lots of interesting shops and places to eat and drink on the way back up the hill! (kept us fit!) We ate 3 times at Café Fish - lovely seafood and at the Western Isles Hotel.
We had an amazing week at Erray Cottage. The location was perfect for us. Lovely and rural but within walking distance of Tobermory. The boys loved watching the horses and farm animals in the surrounding fields and we even saw deer a few times. The cottage was spot!ess on arrival and had everything we needed. The garden was brilliant for the kids. Thank you for the milk and biscuits. We had such a good time and will book again. Thanks Andrea and Harry.
A great base to see the island. The cottage was well equipped and in a peaceful location. The milk and biscuits were greatly recieved. Having good amenities nearby meant we could access things with ease, from restaurants, tours, walking and food shopping. Will definitely come back in search of the elusive otters! It was a great week and we managed to do lots of sightseeing within Mull,Iona, Ulva, Staffa and Lunga!!
Spent a week on Mull and Erray cottage was our base. Perfect little cottage, very comfortable with a lovely open fire. Bonus! Great location if you like it quiet and out the way. Loved the seating area in the back garden; we had great weather and used this a lot! Very friendly communication with the lovely hosts, cottage had everything we needed and more. Only one parking area but that was not a problem for us. Will definitely be back!
