We have just experienced the most wonderful weeks holiday in the Coastguard Cottages at Duntulm, Isle of Skye.
The house had everything we could have wanted and much more. The rooms were all spotless, spacious and very comfortable with lots of attention to detail.
The location at Duntulm is both peaceful and stunning with amazing views. There is a Loch (Loch Cleat) immediately outside the rear of the property and to the front are the ruins of Duntulm Castle with the backdrop of The Minch, The Outer Hebrides, Atlantic Ocean and beyond.
Andy is a perfect host and gentleman who couldn't have done any more to make our stay in Hunish so special. From arriving and entering the Cottage to a welcoming homely feel and a lovely welcome package of Fresh Bread, Milk, Wine, Chocolates, Fresh Fruit and just about everything you could possibly need, it was a truly fantastic week for us and I would highly recommend it to anyone planning a holiday in this beautiful part of the Isle of Skye.
I would have no hesitation in recommending this property whatsoever. Can't wait to return.
See you next year Andy,
Best Wishes from
Steve, Babs, Michael, Callum, Natalie and Bruno the Hound
We have just had a wonderful weeks holiday in the Coastguard Cottages in Duntulm. The house had everything we could have wanted and much more. The rooms were all spotless and very comfortable with lots of attention to detail. We were a party of 6 adults, 2 children and 1 baby and everyone had plenty of space to relax. The location is both peaceful and stunning with amazing veiws of Trotternish. Andy is a wonderful host who couldn't have done any more to make our stay in Hunish so special. It was a truly memorable week for us and I would highly recommend it to anyone planning a holiday in this beautiful part of the Isle of Skye.
It's quite remote... about an hours drive from the Skye Bridge, but well worth it, as when you arrive the location is simply breathtaking. The cottages are located next to a Loch but within sight of Duntulm Castle and the rocky beach. On a clear day you can watch the sunset over the Western Isles. We were made to feel very welcome with and had everything (and more) we could have possibly needed, our cottage was the end one, nicely laid out (recently decorated?) warm, with a cosy coal and log fire and electric heating in all rooms. Plenty of bedroom space and very comfortable. Determined to have a good walking holiday we used the car for the first few days but quickly realised some of the best walks were in the local area, particularly the Rubha Hunish point and coastguard station. Didn't see any Whales from there though were told it was great location for spotting Minkes. Caught a glimpse of an otter from the cliffs and a pair of Eagles. Overall a terrific week and we'd certainly go back. Be prepared for a long drive (through awesome scenery) and all types of weather!
My son and I have just returned from our holiday to the Isle of Skye. We originally identified this property after a search of various property websites as to where to stay. The cottage description is very accurate. Hunish has recently been renovated to a very high standard of finish and we were so impressed with the level of customer service from Andy who looked after us and made us feel very much at home. It was a nice touch to have food and drink provisions pre-ordered and in place when we arrived. The cottage is very clean, warm and cosy and provided all necessary facilities required if not more. I haven't slept so well for years. The location at Duntulm is quite spectacular. Loch Cleat is immediately outside the property facing east and the ruins of Duntulm Castle faces west with the backdrop of the Outer Hebrides beyond. We had such beautiful weather last week and were able to not only walk parts of the Trotternish but also take full advantage touring the northern part of the island by car and just try to take it all in. Uig and Portree were places to just sit and relax and enjoy. I would have no hesitation in recommending this property whatsoever. Can't wait to return.
This traditional and comfortable cottage was better equipped than my own house! The owners had thought of everything. The views including the loch to one side and across to Duntulm Castle and beyond on the other were terrific. It was what I needed to decompress from an overworked and stressful time. I slept like the proverbial top and went home feeling refreshed.
My mum and I had a lovely short break at the coastguard cottages.Although it sleeps nine and there were only two of us, this cottage still felt cosy. Very well stocked with fresh fruit, bread, milk, all the essentials and more!
Andy was the perfect host, very helpful but not intrusive at all. Gave us useful advice on things to see, buses, and where to run etc.
The cottage itself has a open fire with logs etc provided, and comfy sofas. You could happily while away the day here while it’s blowing a hoolie!
The cottage is fairly remote right on the northern tip of Skye, and feels a bit end-of-the-earth-ish, however good roads connect to Portree and the sights, although bear in mind it takes a little while to drive these distances.
Perfect for escaping for a few days or longer, we would definitely stay again.
