“Amazing stay at Coastguard Cottages, Isle of Skye.”
Reviewed 5 November 2017 for a stay in October 2017

We have just experienced the most wonderful weeks holiday in the Coastguard Cottages at Duntulm, Isle of Skye.
The house had everything we could have wanted and much more. The rooms were all spotless, spacious and very comfortable with lots of attention to detail.
The location at Duntulm is both peaceful and stunning with amazing views. There is a Loch (Loch Cleat) immediately outside the rear of the property and to the front are the ruins of Duntulm Castle with the backdrop of The Minch, The Outer Hebrides, Atlantic Ocean and beyond.
Andy is a perfect host and gentleman who couldn't have done any more to make our stay in Hunish so special. From arriving and entering the Cottage to a welcoming homely feel and a lovely welcome package of Fresh Bread, Milk, Wine, Chocolates, Fresh Fruit and just about everything you could possibly need, it was a truly fantastic week for us and I would highly recommend it to anyone planning a holiday in this beautiful part of the Isle of Skye.
I would have no hesitation in recommending this property whatsoever. Can't wait to return.
See you next year Andy,

Best Wishes from
Steve, Babs, Michael, Callum, Natalie and Bruno the Hound

Hello Steve, Babs, and all 'the troops', Greetings from a perfect morning here on Skye.... full sun and a cloudless blue sky. This follows a clear night with a full moon... it looked wonderful as it popped up and reflected across Loch Cleat. You guys really need to see Duntulm like this... nowhere better on planet earth! THANK YOU so very much for your fab review of 'HUNISH' Coastguard Cottage... so very kind of you to take the trouble. I am truly delighted that you enjoyed both the cottage and our special wee corner of Skye. You can hear a pin drop this morning...so peaceful and relaxing. I am going to repeat my gratitude again for being perfect guests...you are so thoughtful. I don't think anyone has ever polished the hearth before leaving but it was a fine thank you and tribute to the centrepiece of the cottage... the toasty open fire. Some heat eh! We've loved having you as guests, so..' Will ye no come back again?,- and soon! Winter well lovely people, My thanks & very best regards,

Hi Emma, Ronnie and ALL the family,
Greetings from a gloriously sunny autumn afternoon here on Skye...
MANY THANKS for your super review... very kind of you to find the time and think of us. We are so pleased you loved staying at HUNISH Coastguard Cottage and loved the fabulous surroundings here at Duntulm. There's nowhere better for a BBQ in Britain than on the lawn at the Coastguard Cottages with the sun setting over the Western Isles... aND you certainly all (2 legs & four) seemed to enjoy it to the full.
We loved having you stay so put us in the holiday calendar for another visit please. Winter well....
My thanks & very best regards,
Andy.

It's quite remote... about an hours drive from the Skye Bridge, but well worth it, as when you arrive the location is simply breathtaking. The cottages are located next to a Loch but within sight of Duntulm Castle and the rocky beach. On a clear day you can watch the sunset over the Western Isles. We were made to feel very welcome with and had everything (and more) we could have possibly needed, our cottage was the end one, nicely laid out (recently decorated?) warm, with a cosy coal and log fire and electric heating in all rooms. Plenty of bedroom space and very comfortable. Determined to have a good walking holiday we used the car for the first few days but quickly realised some of the best walks were in the local area, particularly the Rubha Hunish point and coastguard station. Didn't see any Whales from there though were told it was great location for spotting Minkes. Caught a glimpse of an otter from the cliffs and a pair of Eagles. Overall a terrific week and we'd certainly go back. Be prepared for a long drive (through awesome scenery) and all types of weather!

Hello 'Amberman' and all the family,
Good to hear from you again and THANK YOU so very much for your excellent review of 'HUNISH' Coastguard Cottage. I hope all is well in the 'Derbyshire Dales'.
YES... the Coastguard Cottages at Duntulm are simply a great place to be particularly on such a glorious afternoon as this. I am replying to you whilst taking tea (and just a wee naughty nibble) at the outside picnic table and watching a heron fishing in the reeds along the shore of Loch Cleat. So relaxing and perfectly peaceful.
You clearly all enjoyed both the comfortable cottage and the 'great outdoors'. I am, of course biased, but think the Trotternish peninsula has some of the finest scenery in the Scottish Highlands... it has both the 'Old Man of Storr' and the 'Quiraing' along the 20 mile length of the amazing Trotternish ridge... along with stunning coastal scenery and beaches. If I remember correctly, you are a really good photographer, so I hope you send me some great pics of the holiday, scenery & wildlife.
My thanks again and I hope we'll see some, or all, of you again soon...
Best regards,
Andy.

“Traditional coastguard cottage in superb location”
Reviewed 18 October 2017 for a stay in May 2017

My son and I have just returned from our holiday to the Isle of Skye. We originally identified this property after a search of various property websites as to where to stay. The cottage description is very accurate. Hunish has recently been renovated to a very high standard of finish and we were so impressed with the level of customer service from Andy who looked after us and made us feel very much at home. It was a nice touch to have food and drink provisions pre-ordered and in place when we arrived. The cottage is very clean, warm and cosy and provided all necessary facilities required if not more. I haven't slept so well for years. The location at Duntulm is quite spectacular. Loch Cleat is immediately outside the property facing east and the ruins of Duntulm Castle faces west with the backdrop of the Outer Hebrides beyond. We had such beautiful weather last week and were able to not only walk parts of the Trotternish but also take full advantage touring the northern part of the island by car and just try to take it all in. Uig and Portree were places to just sit and relax and enjoy. I would have no hesitation in recommending this property whatsoever. Can't wait to return.

Hello Brian & Matthew,
Good to hear from you again and THANK YOU so very much for your kind and generous review of 'HUNISH' Coastguard Cottage. I am so pleased you enjoyed the house and it's spectacular surroundings. It's such a great base from which to explore the spectacular Trotternish peninsula as access to either east or west sides is easy. You had some great Spring weather whilst you were here and, I seem to remember, you were both sun-tanned when you left us... a real bonus!
I hope we've not seen the last of you lovely people, so 'will ye no come back again'... soon!
My thanks & best regards,
Andy.

“A peaceful and cosy home-from-home with spectacular views.”
Reviewed 17 October 2017 for a stay in June 2017

This traditional and comfortable cottage was better equipped than my own house! The owners had thought of everything. The views including the loch to one side and across to Duntulm Castle and beyond on the other were terrific. It was what I needed to decompress from an overworked and stressful time. I slept like the proverbial top and went home feeling refreshed.

“Cosy cottage with roaring fire”
Reviewed 17 October 2017 for a stay in October 2017

My mum and I had a lovely short break at the coastguard cottages.Although it sleeps nine and there were only two of us, this cottage still felt cosy. Very well stocked with fresh fruit, bread, milk, all the essentials and more!
Andy was the perfect host, very helpful but not intrusive at all. Gave us useful advice on things to see, buses, and where to run etc.
The cottage itself has a open fire with logs etc provided, and comfy sofas. You could happily while away the day here while it’s blowing a hoolie!
The cottage is fairly remote right on the northern tip of Skye, and feels a bit end-of-the-earth-ish, however good roads connect to Portree and the sights, although bear in mind it takes a little while to drive these distances.
Perfect for escaping for a few days or longer, we would definitely stay again.

Hi Catherine & mum,
Greetings from a lovely dry, bright and amazingly warm Autumnal day here on northern Skye.. or 'the end of the world' as you call it!
I'm so pleased you enjoyed your wee break with us in HUNISH Coastguard Cottage... as you say it's so cosy and comfortable when the 'Scotch Mist' is blowing past or on a winters eve in front of a real fire.
Keep putting the miles (or is it K's in these days) and we'll see you at the Skye Half Marathon next year.
Have a great winter and best regards to mum.
My sincere thanks,
Andy

On arrival, cozy light burned in all the rooms, the heating was on and it was nice and warm. The house and especially the kitchen are perfectly equipped. Nothing is missing! The fridge was full (milk, water, tea, coffee, butter, bread, jam, fresh fruit ...). There is wood in front of the fireplace. Red wine and chocolate on the mantelpiece. All rooms are super comfortable and extremely clean and well maintained. We have never seen such a fully equipped holiday home. Incredible! Many thanks to Andy for this wonderful stay. The location is great. Here you have great peace and can walk great.
