“SIMPLY THE WORST”
Reviewed 4 August 2013

Stayed at hotels all over the world - this must rank the worst I have ever stayed in.Giving it 1 star is being over generous.
It is clear the owners have tried to make improvements but these are very piecemeal and being an old building it needs a vast amount spent on it.
It is not acceptable in this day and age to have "bats" flying around the corridors -the overall appearance of public areas is exceptionally poor and once moving away from the main guest area the carpets and floor coverings are in a very poor state and to be honest the smell is not pleasant and that is being kind.
Furniture in room was in very poor condition and nothing was co-ordinated.
Whilst i accept the views are very nice you dont have to stay in the hotel to see them.
Under no circumstances would or could I recommend this establishment- in fact the local authority should be looking at the hotel and assesing the risks of staying in this property.

Room Tip: Dont stay !

We stayed luckely only one night at this tatty hotel. They have advertised that the hotel has refurnished, but nothing of this could be seen. The service was no good. As we tried to conversate with the woman in the reseption she went on with searching for whatever and not paying us any intention at all. The room was terribly tatty. Bits of the roof falling off, a meldew smell filled both the room and the hallway outside. The bathroom was washed, but did not invite to usage.
Advertising with refurnishing that hasn't been done is telling a lie. It is one of the "BeSpoken" hotels, and unfortunatly it isn't positive words that can be said about this place.
The waiters at breakfast were very serviceminded and helpfull, the breakfast itself was ok, but it doesn't count up totally.

We stayed here for two nights whilst on an eight day 'Top to Bottom' tour of Scotland with our local Coach company. Not the best of Hotels, has seen better days and could benefit from some upgrading and refurbishment. In my opinion judgement of the room that you are allocated is generally the deciding factor on which the quality of the whole Hotel is based, with a further bias on the food. The room we had (111) was bit on the small side but had a bit more space beside the bathroom. Again it is 'one offs' that mar the overall experience, here the evening meal was spoilt by the beef being tough and the choices of sweet, no ice cream, no cheese.
Next morning breakfast was Ok self service for cereals and waiter service for the cooked meal. The next evening meal was Ok we had Mackerel, Turkey, and Ice Cream (back on the menu) and Lentil Soup (more like big soup), Salmon, Lemon Meringue. Staff, mainly European, were all OK and appeared to be happy with their job.
We had a water leak in our bathroom which was promptly dealt with although two u/s lights were still u/s after 24 hours.
There is a rather odd obstruction at head height in the corridors of the first and second floors, see photo.

I stayed there for the weekend with my 85 year old Mum on a Caledonian Travel trip and we had a lovely time. Certainly we would have liked a better view than overgrown gardens but apart from that the room was fine and the beds were very comfortable. Breakfast and dinner were excellent and the staff were just amazing and couldn't be more helpful.

Room Tip: Ask for a seaview.

The hotel is right on the waters edge and has wonderful views, but the hotel itself is in need of a refurbishmnet and a bit of tender loving care. The room was clean enough, but was certainly not at all what I was expecting for the price that it cost. Didn't have dinner in the hotel so can't comment on that aspect of it but breakfast was quite good. The staff were lovely and very helpful.

We stayed here for just the one night as a party of three, one twin room and one single. The room was really shabby, had not even been hoovered since the previous guests, the wooden windows were rotten, the room smelled musty, and the bed linen had marks on it (don't know if it had even been changed). But the prize must go to the bathroom, I can honestly say that I have never come across a bathroom in a hotel like this before. The light above the hand basin was held together with gaffer tape, the showerhead was filthy and mouldy, the seal around the bath was just disgusting, and just generally dirty. This was the twin room, and to be fair the person staying in the single room said it was ok, although I didn't look in there. Just thankful that we only booked one night.

The room was clean and comfortable but very small.

We didn't eat an evening meal in the hotel so I can't comment but the breakfast was good and a very speedy service.

The hotel is starting to look a little shabby and needs some investment but its not easy in this climate and they do a reasonable job with what they've got but this is basically a coach stop and if you are looking for more than the basics then I suggest you stay away.
