We were just looking for a light meal on a sunday lunch time and were lucky enough to be the first diners after they opened. Staff were pleasant and the food was exactly what we were looking for.
The price was very reasonable for a light lunch as a lot of other places were expecting to sell big sunday dinners.
Service was friendly and prompt.
Smoked salmon salad was tasty and fresh.

Have to say, I'm a bit perplexed by some of the negative views of the Lower Deck. If I had to guess, I reckon this place kind of conditions you to enter in a foul mood, given there's every chance you have waited outside (potentially for a while if you are a larger party), being eaten alive by midges, given you cannot book.

However, once inside - we got a table of two within ten minutes - it is a perfectly solid restaurant with an excellent location on the harbour. The mussels in a chilli broth special was superb, and shows a fair bit of skill from the chef in balancing those flavours, while I would heartily recommend the Stornoway black pudding and smoked mackerel mains. A taste of Scotland. Prices are fair too.

Meal not as written on menu. Fish dish had numerous bones and when questioned staff were rude and dismissed issues within food but produced the bill and asked for the money! DO NOT EAT HERE!

We chose the Lower Deck because every place else was full or required an advance booking. Lucky for us! We had a delightful meal. The decor centers around boats and was tastefully done. The restaurant is small, and the eleven tables are very close together, but acoustics are good and we weren't bothered by other diners' conversations. Service was a bit slow, but we weren't in a hurry and didn't mind the wait. The food was more than worth it. My daughter had a very generous serving of mussels that she thoroughly enjoyed, and my vegetarian choice was a well-spiced bean stew. The meal wasn't cheap, but given the quality of the food and the nice waterside location, we felt the price to be justified. We would definitely pay a return visit.

Cosy little cafe and friendly service. We enjoyed traditional fish soup, with good bread while overlooking the harbour in Portree. Other food around us looked plentiful and good too. A relaxed place to eat.
