The staff is great and the location is perfect! The hostel was a post office a ling time ago, but now it has multicoloured walls and comfortable beds! There isn't any breakfast, but the kitchen is really really big and clean!

I stayed for two nights and enjoyed it. The staff are more than willing to bend over backwards to keep you informed, and comfy, the beds are good, it wasn't too busy so I had a room to myself. The kitchen is a goo social space with excellent kitchenware for everyone's use. I thought at 17.50 for the night it was good value. The only minor issue was the duvet was pretty thin for this time of year, but apparently I could have got another supplementary one from reception.
Overall very good!

The Portree Independent Hostel has a very central location, just a block downhill from the main square. The building used to be the post office, and as a result has various peculiarities which might make it difficult for a newly-arrived guest to navigate when drunk. Not that I'd know anything about that!

Pat, the owner, is very friendly, and a great source of local information. Although breakfast isn't included, there's free tea and coffee, and the kitchen is huge. In the TV room, do stop to make friends with Fish, the imaginatively-named goldfish. The dorms are carpeted and not crowded, with some (at least) having single beds as well as bunks. The drying room is a very useful feature, particularly in view of Skye's weather.

The hostel is wonderful if you go here to meet nice people, get a decent amount of sleep and explore the Isle of Skye. The staff is nice and the hostel is very central, right at the town square. the kitchen is very big and is equipped with everything you may need to fix a meal. the store isn't far away either. would recommend it for anyone staying in portree.

Stayed here on a tour of Scotland, this hostel is warm it's cozy and it is typically Scottish, the staff made us feel most welcome I was treated more like family and a guest of a hostel. Loved chatting to random people, essential as a solo traveller.

The kitchen was huge, the hostel is in the old Post Office and the kitchen was once the sorting room. I wasn't rushed into anything. They hostel even gave good hiking advice, the benefit of staff knowing the island.

Skye is an island where the 21st century hardly exists, so internet access and even 3G is out the window, so don't expect it when you come here.

I stayed here for 1 night on Fri 23rd of August and it was great! Execllent value at £17 a night. Comfortable bed, good size kitchen and well equipped! Clothes washing facilities round the back! I had a good wee night in the Black Isle pub and then went on to Uig the next morning and over to Harris & Lewis. All in all very good!!

I stayed here while traveling with a friend on a hiking/sightseeing trip. I think it was the nicest hostel we stayed at on our weeklong trip. The hostel is right in the middle of Portree and very easy to find. No long haul from the bus stop this time! The staff was very helpful--even gave us some hiking recommendations. The rooms were big, airy, and brightly-colored. There were enough bathrooms that I never encountered a line. Beware of the showers--if it is possible, the water at this hostel was almost too hot, and there wasn't anyway to adjust the temperature.

The only thing that we would have changed would be to have locks on the room door. Our room had no lock, and the door to the hostel was unlocked most of the day. We were a little worried about leaving our laptops in our luggage while we went exploring.

Thank you for your good review of this hostel, we've taken on board your suggestions about the shower water temperature and are in the process of having this better regulated. It might not have been brought to your attention but the inner door is locked between 12pm and 4pm and the outer door between 10pm and 7.30am when reception is closed, with a key card system for security. We are also currently having key operated lockers secured to the floor downstairs for any valuables. Hope you enjoyed your hike, and thanks again for your suggestions, you were lovely guests!
