“Nice B&B in Skye - a home from home.”
Reviewed 20 September 2013

We enjoyed our two night stay in the B&B. The room was spacious, as was the ensuite bathroom with a shower over bath. Tea, coffee and cookies were provided in the room. We liked that the guests had access to a living room although we didn't use it. We were fairly tired so wanted to rest in the room watching the TV, but unfortunately there was no TV in the room. We had access to WiFi although this, along with mobile reception can be difficult in Skye which is no fault of the owners.

The breakfast was brilliant and really set you up for the day. A huge selection of teas was on offer each morning and we liked that attention was taken to remember our breakfast preferences across the two mornings.

The couple were extremely friendly, the accommodation was quiet and we enjoyed the short stroll back and forth to the town. We would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: From memory there are two rooms available in this B&B and I am sure both are equally comfortable...

Why would you want to stay in a hotel when you could stay here? Marie and John (along with Oscar and Olivia the cats) were very welcoming and friendly. My partner was going off on a windy afternoon to do some photography so I curled up in the guests lounge in warm and comfort to read my book. Marie was very helpful in suggesting somewhere good to eat in the town.
Later in the evening after a walk and food in Portree we returned to relax in the lounge and were joined by Marie and we had a lovely long chat. We felt totally at ease and like she was a long lost friend.

Our room was very comfortable and spacious with a beautiful clean bathroom just across the hall, and we slept very very well!

Breakfast, served in the dining room with the other two guests, was so amazing. Local fresh smoked salmon for breakfast along with all the other usual hot breakfast items. Add to that cereal fresh fruit, yoghurt, toast and a huge selection of teas or a cafetiere of coffee, we were set up for the day!

Keep up the great work.

We have been there in August 2013 after a long, windy ride on Skye. It was Sunday and no place to stay! Finally we found this great B&B with lovely Marie and John, who let us feel home in an instant! A comfortable room with a very good bed and a bathrobe, a nicely designed bathroom and an absolutely perfect beakfast! A kiss to the cook! It was a very friendly welcome in their home. Unfortunately we could only stay one night but we'll be back!!!!

Thirteen minutes walk into Portree. Very homely B&B. Marie and John are great hosts. The breakfast is the best we had on our three week trip. We stayed three nights, and had a different breakfast each day. The home is very welcoming, and the rooms are spotless. Nice lounge for guests to relax. Ample parking on-site.

There is a comment about cats in another post, but the proprietors make sure the cats are no bother. If you like cats, you can enjoy them if you want - but otherwise, they are kept out of the way.

We would go back if we visit Portree again.

We stayed 2 nights here while in Isle of Skye, Portree. The rooms were very nice, as well as the bathrooms. Super cute, clean, and plenty of space (including a flex room or living room with Wifi). The owners are very welcoming, helpful, and respectful of your travel needs.. Flexible and thoughtful, good hearted people:)

We were visiting Skye with our Scottish friends who booked us into Whitehirst in Portree.
Mr and Mrs Gilles who owned the house were extremely friendly, very welcoming and full of information about, not only the immediate area, but also lots of other interesting facts. They made us feel at home straight away.
Our room was big and comfortable with a private bathroom directly opposite containing everything but the kitchen sink. Sometimes travellers forget small toiletries and it was great to see that all tastes had been catered for in Whitehirst. Pity some other B&Bs don't take note on this! There were even fluffy white bathrobes in the wardrobe! Breakfast was hot, very tasty, freshly cooked and loads of it!
The reason I haven't given this B&B a 5 star rating is that they have 2 cats who wander around, even into the dining room. Whilst we have no problem with animals I think perhaps it might be advisable to mention any pets when people telephone to book a B&B. It would be awful if guests arrived and were allergic to cats/dogs etc.
Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our 2 nights there and would definitely go again.

We stayed at the Whitehurst just overnight, but we were specially pleased with the attention and comfort received there. It is a two bedroom bed and breakfast, with an especially lovely parlour to sit and chat, or watch TV. We felt at home. The owners Marie & John Gilles were wonderful hosts. The breakfast was wonderful and served at a dining room table in a family type dining room. The town center is just down the hill in walking distance to the harbour, restaurants and other sights.
