“Great location”

Ellen's Bothy is perfectly located at the most beautiful part of Skye - The Trotternish - 20 min driving to the island's biggest town, Portree, where you can do shopping and find nice dinner places. Also, it is only 30 min driving along the outstanding costal road to Uig to take the ferry to Uist. Also, the most beautiful coastal walks are to be found on Trotternish. The famous hiking tour "Quiring" is just at the backside of the cottage; The "Old Man of Storr" is located on the road to Portree, too, and worth climbing up for wonderful views from the top. We stayed for one week at the Bothy. Heating worked very well when the weather turned rainy and chilly. The kitchen is very well equipped. Also, the welcome goodies and the personal card from Ellen are special. It was very clean. However, note that the bed is quite small for two people (grand lit) if you are not to be a couple - on the other hand this might be a "German thing"; we do tend to have much larger beds in Germany; I noticed that "grand lits" are quite usual - even for double room booking - while touring Scotland.

Dear Sybille

Thank you for your review and I am glad you had a good holiday. Also, thank you kindly for the chocolates! Yes, the bed is a standard British double which is the norm here and I did highlight this at the time of booking as you told me you were coming with your niece. The bothy is designed for couples for which it works very well. I am happy you still had a good time and I hope the rest of your trip was very enjoyable. Very best wishes, Ellen.

Had a great week at Ellen's Bothy. Stunning location at the north of the island, ideally located and directions provided made it easy to find. The bothy was well equipped and very clean and the log stove was put to good use on the colder nights! Would highly recommend to anyone looking to get away from it all and enjoy the more remote parts of skye. Would definitely stay again!

“Cosy cottage in fantastic location”

We had a lovely week staying at Ellens Bothy, it has everything you need and is in the most fantastic location for walking and exploring the Quiraing range on the of the Isle of Skye. There were some welcome treats waiting for us on arrival and a supply of fuel for the woodburner which was very much appreciated. Note to telly addicts - there is no TV reception. We found this a welcome change but had loaded up a few programmes onto a tablet in case of withdrawal symptoms! Would happily recommend the cottage to anyone planning on visiting the island.

“Wonderful cottage in beautiful North-East Skye”

We had a fantastic stay in the bothy, perfectly located to explore the beautiful scenery of North-East Skye (and easy to drive to other locations). Cozy, clean and welcoming with a ready laid fire on arrival and everything that you could need (and more!). Even when the weather outside was cold and raining (typical Skye - 4 seasons in one day!), it was lovely knowing we could come back and relax in front of the fire. We even got ourselves locked out on the very first day, and Ellen was brilliant at sorting everything out to make sure we got back inside! There is a lovely beach just a 15 minute walk away which makes for a gorgeous pre-breakfast or evening stroll, and lots of useful information provided and in the visitors book. Will definitely recommend and would love to stay again in the future :)

A really cosy little bothy, beautiful location. Everything you could ask for and more. Finding tea; coffee; milk and biscuits waiting for you upon arrival and a wood stove waiting to be lit was just what was needed after a days drive. Would thoroughly recommend to all.

We stayed in the bothy 17th to the 20th February.
Wow! It was amazing. Very clean, warm and welcoming. Dog friendly - even left treats for our JRT to enjoy after his long walks!
The log burner was a welcome addition after our adventures. Ellens bothy has everything you could need for a perfect self catering break. Thanks so much for a wonderful few days!

“Cosy, stylish and welcoming little cottage in beautiful location.”
Reviewed 14 February 2014 for a stay in February 2014

We really enjoyed our stay in Ellen's Bothy on Skye - great value, lovely, cosy and stylish accomodation and our greyhound was welcome too - a perfect combination. The location minutes from Staffin was ideally positioned for Skye's breathtaking scenery and vistas. And after a day of walking and climbing, it was great to come back to the bothy, light the woodburner and settle down on the comfy sofa and enjoy the video library! What a magical, mystical island - will definitely be back.
