“Not for us”
Reviewed 20 June 2014

The view from our bedroom across the Portree harbour to the Cuillins was superb. But this was not like any other hotel or B&B that we have stayed at. Maybe we are simply too old to enjoy the quirky set up but that does not forgive the broken extractor fan in the bathroom and the very uncomfortable bed. The thin walls allowed us to not quite hear what our neighbours were saying and the bedroom door rattled tiresomely every time someone went through the fire door leading into the combined reception-bar-restaurant. Features that we did not enjoy were the very noisy restaurant and the very sparsely furnished bedroom. The staff were cheerful and friendly but did not go out of their way to be helpful. Even allowing for the Skye premium, this was for us poor value for the money.

Room Tip: A few rooms have a wonderful view across the lawn to the Cuillins but be prepared for the noise from...

Perfect accommodations for our family of 4 (room with 1 double + 2 twin beds) plus a couch and large bathroom. For being attached to a pub/restaurant, it was amazingly quiet! Sarah was a wonderful host and server. Great breakfast that you order from a menu (the porridge with whisky liqueur was a fun way to start the day!). Walking to town and lots of restaurants, plus a small bagpipe and drum parade in the evening.

We stayed a couple of nights in June and apparently the staff was quite stressed out because of the season. We got very so-so service from everyone except one guy (cheers Peter!). The room was adequate but the walls were very thin (you could hear a pen drop in the next room) and with the pub downstairs sleeping was at times impossible.

The location was excellent; not in the centre but within a walking distance from the centre's services.

All in all, the room rate was quite high when compared to the quality of rooms and services.

Room Tip: Rooms can be noisy (pub downstairs and paperthin walls), excellent location with 5 min walk to "...

hi, we had a lovely view from our room, the staff was friendly and helpful. But I found the price to be over the top. Close to the town, so nice not to have to drive. Early May was a lovely time to visit, wouldn't have been much fun, if it had poured with rain the day we were there.

Room Tip: not worth the cost, but maybe all places are overpriced on the Isle of Skye, I don't know, someo...

Spent 2 nights in early June 2014 and was very impressed with the room, food, bar and service. The family room view ( 1 queen, 2 single beds) was beautiful and the lawn area has tables to sit out in the gardens. 5 minute walk to town without all the noise from local traffic. Breakfast was excellent and we had one dinner there-scallops and salmon-top notch. Free parking out the front door - made travel stay in Portree a pleasure.

Room Tip: Family room with view

Up the hill from the middle of Portree, with the frontage facing south, over the bay towards the northern edge of the Black Cuillins: if someone can show me a better view from a hotel room in the UK (yes, I know: it's still May) I would be most grateful (see accompanying pix).

The building itself is rather good too; there are some interesting pictures of the renovation dotted around. Rooms are good, enough space for our needs, comfortable, good shower (we stayed 2 nights, a week apart and had different rooms).

Food was good (we had the scallops from the specials board in the evenings and scrambled egg with smoked salmon for breakfast).

Staff were friendly and helpful both nights (including dealing very politely with some other customers who seemed to be going out of their way to be difficult and appearing to fabricate "needs" - did we have some mystery shoppers? I do hope that was it).

Nice place.

We spent 2 nights and the accommodation was very good, we enjoyed the evening meal and breakfast. The rooms are of a good size and very clean.
Staff are friendly and a special mention for Peter who went out of his way to be helpful.
