“Great Family B and B”
Reviewed 5 January 2012

We were made very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Rooms were lovely and spacious and breakfast very good. Plenty parking and close to Dunvegan just off main road. We stayed here while filming a cattle droving documentary with Griff Rhys Jones and the BBC.

Room Tip: Great location for touring Skye

This was our 2nd visit to Ardmorn, and since our last visit the hosts have changed..but the warmth and welcome was just as wondeful...if not better. This time we were there for three nightsDuncan and Jillian make you feel like part of the family, this is the ONLY place to stay...and the breakfasts fill you up and get you off to a great start for exploring the Isle. One word to the warning...dinner in Dunvegan can be tough...make sure you make bookings at the local restaurants to make sure you get in.

We did not arrive until 9pm (i had emailed Duncan, the host, that it would be 6pm). The drive took a lot longer than i thought, yet he was cheery and welcoming as we dragged in. It was our first night in the UK after flying from US and we had not had supper. Duncan immediately asked if we had eaten and informed us that there was a lovely restaurant a few minutes away. We said yes, he was on the phone immediately. He unloaded our bags for us and we were off to the restaurant in under 5 minutes and had supper ordered within the next 5 minutes. It was a treat - The Old Schoolhouse in Dunvegan. Wonderful food -- the best lentil soup i have ever had....period. The next morning we had a lovely veiw of the crofting area and had a wonderful chat with Duncan and 2 other guests. The breakfast was a good ol' stick to your ribs Scottish breakfast that was made even more wonderful of the view of the hills and glen and heather.

We enjoyed our 1 night stay at Ardmorn. The room was lovely - pretty much hotel standard - lovely bed linen, flat screen TV, modern decor. The hosts, Duncan and his wife, were friendly and helpful. It was conveniently situated a couple of minutes drive outside Dunvegan in a beautifully peaceful location. We drove to eat at the Three Chimneys which was fantastic, very beautifully situated overlooking the loch.

GOOD:
- Access: Ardmorn is easily found, access is down a shared drive on the southern part of the ‘U’ bend at Roskhill.
- Location: In a quiet location, this B&B has excellent views of McLeods Tables, Loch Bracadale and the Cuillin Hills. Ardmorn is a good base from which to explore the attractions of North Skye.
- Welcome: I arrived at the beginning of October after a long day, having driven all the way from London, at 10pm. The door was answered immediately. Despite my late arrival I was offered coffee. The room was ready and had been warmed prior to my coming.
- Room size and view: The room in which I stayed was good-sized with space to move despite the presence of a double bed.
- Facilities: Rooms are warm, comfortable and have partitioned en-suite rooms with shower and toilet. A writing desk was also in my room – which I personally find very useful. Sachets of coffee, tea, biscuits and milk supplied with large jug kettle.
Sky TV, DVD player, CD radio-cassette player, hair dryer, and radio-alarm are provided. WiFi key available upon request. Books, games, CDs & DVDs are available for guest enjoyment. Isle of Skye maps and guides may also be borrowed. Gillian and Duncan are happy to dry off wet clothing and footwear.
Guests are welcome to make use of the comfortable lounge with wood-burning stove. In addition, guests are always welcome to sit outside and enjoy the scenery, Ardmorn has a pleasant garden.
- Maintenance: B&B is well maintained. Duncan always seems to have some home improvement ‘project’ on the go; this time he was halfway through adding a back-boiler to the wood-burning stove in the lounge to augment, and hopefully economise on, the gas central heating.
- Décor: Ardmorn is in good decorative order.
- Cleanliness: Very Good to Excellent.
- Service: Gillian and Duncan are always happy to help and ready to proffer local knowledge.
- Bed & Breakfast: At £34 (single occupancy) per night mid season (Oct’09), this B&B is very reasonable value.
- Dinner: Although offered – by prior arrangement – I have not yet availed myself of dinner at the Ardmorn … my loss I am sure!
- Restaurant Proximity: Ardmorn guests are spoilt with regard to restaurants; the most notable being the Three Chimneys Restaurant 20 minutes away, The Ullinish Country Lodge is 15 minutes away, The Old School Restaurant is 5 minutes away and the Loch Bay Seafood Restaurant is 20 minutes away.
Reviews of all can be found on TripAdvisor.
Take your pick and enjoy!

BAD:
Nothing; I have stayed at Ardmorn 4 or 5 times now and there has not been a single problem.

CONCLUSION:
A B&B in a good location, boasting excellent facilities – stay there!

I wish all B&Bs were like the Ardmorn … for me it is Home from Home.
