“Disappointing”
Reviewed 22 November 2013 via mobile

Came here during our honeymoon, it was meant to be our one bit of luxury that we were going to allow ourselves. Instead it ended up being the most disappointing part of our entire honeymoon. The billiard room and lodge style with roaring fires in the public areas was nice. The food was passable at best, the bed we were given was tiny and not big enough to be classed as a double, I actually considered sleeping on the floor. The room smelt of mildew despite the air freshener plugged in. Staff were friendly but seemed a little "bumbling" in their actions, the receptionist seemed to have it together more than others.
The location was good and the road to the hotel is fine as is the car park.
I would not consider this good value for money even at the discounted rate we had from a booking site. The food, tiny bed and smell let it down badly.

We went to Skeabost for a late autumn break. Location was fantastic set in its' own grounds on the edge of a loch. Hotel is a lovely old country house. Our room was one of the annexe rooms added to main building. It was a good sized room and nice and warm on a cold autumn day. Staff were all really friendly from the barman in the bar in the grounds to the receptionists who also helped out in main bar and restaurant. The bars were frequented by a mixture of fellow guests and friendly locals. We ate in the hotel both nights we were there as the meal on first night was so good we saw no reason to venture out on th second night and enjoyed the lovely surroundings at the hotel. Breakfast was a combination of cold buffet and hot food served to order. Breakfast and dinner in restaurant both embraced local foodstuff well prepared and presented.

Highly recommended for a short break

Room Tip: We were in an annexe room which opened out onto grounds overlooking the loch. Don't know what ro...

What a superb hotel, the staff and service were excellent and the food was exceptional.
we will definitely be going here again.
Our room was immaculate and on leaving myself and my wife agreed we had never stayed at a hotel where we could not fault a single item.

Room Tip: ask for a loch view.

Just back from our second visit to Skeabost country house . Last year we enjoyed it so much couldn't wait to visit again . This visit was even better .The room was fabulous with a four poster bed which was a wonderful surprise and so comfortable We have 2 border collies and they were made very welcome too The food was delicious and a brilliant choice on the menu . I have to have a gluten free diet and there was always separate bread laid out for me and nothing was too much trouble with the meals . The staff as usual were brilliant we cant praise them enough . Thank you again for a wonderful relaxing 2 nights and we will be back again next year .

Spent 3 nights last week at Skeakbost Country House on Skye which my husband had booked up. We had a great stay although I was slightly concerned having read some negative comments prior to our arrival. We had no reason to worry. After a long drive, we arrived at Skeabost in the late afternoon sunshine and our check-in was quick. Our room was 23 in the annex on the ground floor and it was lovely - with it's own door going out onto the grass area beside the Loch. Fantastic views of Loch Snizort. The bedroom was a good size, although some of the fixtures/fittings were looking a wee bit tired but everything was spotlessly clean and very comfortable.

The hotel itself is very old and no it's nothing like 5 star, but we loved it here!! There was much character about the place. The Blue Room was very comfortable for relaxing in of an evening with the fire lit. We met some really lovely people and were able to relax and have nice conversations. There was also a very good snooker table in the games room.

The bar area wasn't up to much to be honest, we ate there on the first night - food was fine but the bar area was noisy that night and not the best place to sit and eat. There was an area beyond the bar also set up with tables, but it was freezing in that area next to the conservatory that we could not sit there - perhaps it would be nice in that area in a warm summers evening. Also people at the bar were going in and out of a door to smoke, again not great so we decided to eat thereafter in the hotel diningroom (dinner was not included on our package).

The dining room was well set out, and the menu reasonably priced £20.00 for 2 courses, £25.00 for 3 courses, however, many of the items on the menu had a surcharge, for example the Steak and also many of the fish dishes. The evening meals were ok, not brilliant, we had lovely langoustines which were very fun to eat and were presented with an assortment of utensils to open the shell. The scallops and black pudding were excellent and perfectly cooked. The belly pork however was pretty awful, fatty lump of meat - not great, I also had sea bass which was a small piece of fish and it was over cooked. However, that said, it didn't put us off - the main meals were just a bit variable. Lovely starters and puddings and cheese and biscuits were great. Breakfasts were very good, plenty of choice and what you would expect. I had great poached eggs on the first morning with the Eggs Benedict, and on the second morning my poached eggs with breakfast were over cooked - so as I said, food good but variable.

This hotel was in a very good location. The setting beside the Loch was stunning. Only 5-6 miles from Portree and you pass a supermarket on the way so you can stock up on bits and pieces easily for going sightseeing. Very easy to find - and a bonus was the day we arrived they were just finishing the re-surface one of the entrances to the hotel, not the first entrance you arrive at, but drive on a 100 meters or so along the main road and you will see a sign for another entrance, this is now perfect - no pot holes! The first entrance to the hotel is terrible! Hopefully this access will also be sorted soon and will make a huge difference.

Hotel Staff were very helpful - they are all young but they were pleasant and very polite. The cleaning staff were always busy tending to the brass on the doors and the windows. The place is very clean and I would definitely return to this hotel. It was one of the best breaks I have had. I have never slept so well before in a hotel - the bed was very comfortable and cozy room, very peaceful place for a quiet get-a-way. The in-room tea/coffee trays were always full and it was no trouble to ask for more milk or anything. There were also bottles of water in the room, and also soap, and the usual shampoo/shower gels.

There is much charm about this place, we got a great deal and it was a great break away in beautiful Skye. Hope to return to Skeabost. Give it a try, it really is nice as long as you are not looking for a brand new, modern hotel.

Note - I don't think this hotel would suit young children as there is nothing for them to do - we left our 5 year old behind.

We recently stayed for two nights. On arrival, they couldn't find our booking, they did have a room which we were very thankful for. We got put in a small back room overlooking a small car parking area I can only assume was for the staff. This wasn't too much of an issue - we were pleased we had a room after a long drive.

We had dinner included on the first night which looked really good on the menu. When it arrived every course was overcooked, badly cooked and/or tasteless. We thought it could be a one off, but breakfast was also pretty bad too with really salty smoked haddock and poached eggs like bullets, credit where credit's due they cooked us a good porridge when we couldn't face the other cooked breakfasts they offered.

I think potentially we had been spoilt by some other really lovely hotels we stayed in, in Scotland with real charm. This place just missed the mark.

The staff were pleasant and the rooms were ok, the bed was actually very comfortable. The communal areas were nice on the surface but lacked real warmth and atmosphere. I think the nicest possible way to describe the hotel was average, but that is being generous. I don't like to give a bad review but I think it's important people know what they are in for when they are paying £110+ per night.

Needless to say we won't be back in a hurry.
