“Long wait just to get a hot drink”
Reviewed 3 September 2013

A 10 minute wait to order a cup of tea, nobody taking orders because the barman had gone to fit a new beer barrel. The manager was standing next to the bar and totally ignored the queue that was forming. He was too busy dealing with colleague rather than serving the customer. Slow to serve the food but very quick at whisking away your plate before you are finished.

“not too bad”
Reviewed 29 July 2013

A little better than your average wetherspoons maybe because it is newer than the one across the centre, food is the same but must say wetherspoons portions are getting smaller smaller the staff are great and not as many numpties in this one

“Good burgers and cheap drinks”
Reviewed 27 June 2013

I went to newyears field one evening when I missed my buss and had to wait 45 minutes for the next one to arrive.
I am glad I went in, their Burger+beer combo was a nice surprise.

I went there almost every friday after work, trying different food that went from good to mediocre on the borderline to bad.

For me, their chicken burger was the best they had, and their normal burger was absolutely awful.

I will definitely visit them again whenever I am in Livingston, I love their cold and delicious strongbow cider that is very hard to get here in south of France where I live.

“not v exciting”
Reviewed 25 February 2013

wanted somewhere simple for lunch with nana and my 2 year old twin boys. Was initially told that there was no childrens cheesy pasta left but another member of staff overheard and said had arrived that morning. £3.99 price includes drink and bag of fruit - did not automatically get either with the meal and had to go back up to bar to get. Some of pasta was chewy which boys found bit offputting. My chilli con carne was not very hot and contained some weirdly chewy pieces of meat (weird cause it was after all mince) and mum wasnt too impressed with her chips.

“What's gone so badly wrong??????????”
Reviewed 30 January 2013

We have been going to this place since it reopened as the Newyearfield. A better than average, well run Wetherspoons far better AND CLEANER than it's sister pub directly opposite.
Used to have really good food at excellent prices. So much so the we even used to go there even for breakfast if we were shopping at McArthur Glen.
BUT, and a BIG BUT, the last twice we have been really disappointed. Poorly cooked, less than luke warm food. Poor surly service. ( WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE CHEERY WAITER WITH THE BEARD THAT'S BEEN HERE SINCE THE PLACE OPENED? ) They must have changed cooking staff too because the food has gone downhill really badly. I know it's what I call just a " freezer to fryer " place but it would seem to be rather difficult for staff working in the kitchen to do this right anymore.
We walked by on Saturday lunchtime without going in but with the big glass front it was easy to see in. The place was nearly empty so it can't just be us that have decided to give this beautiful gastro-pub a miss in future. A shame really. I think Wetherspoons area managers should do some secret shopping in their companies own establishments to see for themselves the downhill slope Wetherspoons seems to be on.
