“Beautiful fresh fish”
Reviewed 30 October 2013

Situated in the food court of the Designer Outlet, the branch is small, but has all the main dishes from the bigger restaurants. As with all of my reviews, I try and be as objective as possible. Good points - fish very well made, very polite staff and did not have to wait long to be served or longer than 5 mins for my regular fish n chips to arrive. The fish was freshly prepared and I could actually see the guy in the back prepare it by dipping it in the batter before frying. This ensured quality. The fish was perfectly cooked and was enjoyable - crispy batter and lovely succulent fish. Communication among the staff was excellent, in such a fast paced environment I suppose it has to be, but nevertheless it was nice to see that the 3 members of staff (1 in the back) knew exactly what they were doing. I didn't mind atall having to wait the 5 mins for my fish n chips to arrive, as it indicated quality and freshness. I took advantage of the 10% off card you can get when you sign up for a discount card from the Designer Outlet website, so i got around 50p off my meal which came to around £5, without drink. That's not that far off what you would pay for a fish supper elsewhere.

Bad points - the chips, although perfectly edible were VERY average. So much attention is obviously given to the quality of the fish that it seems they forget about the chips! I just found them a tad overcooked and as a result, they aren't what I was expecting. It is with no exaggeration when I say my local chippy makes better chips than Ramsden's and it is definitely something they should look at improving, in what was otherwise a very filling and enjoyable meal. This may be due to the fact that the chips had been lying in the heated box for a period of time and they were not "fresh from the fryer", as the fish is. Also charging 20p for sachets of sauce is rude, especially considering that the salt and vinegar are complimentary. What's that all about? A minor complaint, some might say, but one of my pet hates.

To summarise - great service, excellent fish, chips are okay, but could be alot better. The meal is filling. I never tried the extras, such as mushy peas or curry sauce, etc, so can't comment on those.

“Average”
Reviewed 12 May 2013

Average is the only way I can describe. Fine if you have a notion for a bit of fried fish but nothing special.

“in decline?”
Reviewed 15 March 2013

When Harry's first opened in livingston it felt fresh, today it feels a little tired, as is the service as is the food. Make no mistake it's still one of the best in the fast food section of the centre but it could do with some tlc to all areas of operation.

“OK taken in the context of the food court”
Reviewed 10 March 2013 via mobile

One of several food outlets on the first floor of the designer outlet- MacDonalds, Spud U Like and a noodle bar. So Harry's is completely average in the context of these providers, you pay your money and take your choice. Overall, fairly quick, staff washed their hands which is always good to see, and the food was less greasy or soggy than your average fish & chips in this area. Relatively small portion. £5.45 for a regular Haddock ( no Cod although advertised), plus about £1.45 for a soft drink. Tasty! Certainly had much worse!

“Oh dear oh dear oh dear”
Reviewed 29 January 2013

One doesn't expect too much of an eaterie in a shopping centre food court but this Harry Ramsden's is absolutely terrible. The fish was badly overcooked and the chips best forgotten.

I only tried it because past experiences of Ramsdens elsewhere have generally been good but this one really does let the brand down. Maybe I got it on an off-day?
