Owner description: Mar Lodge Estate occupies nearly 7% of the Cairngorms National Park, covers some of the most remote and scenic wild land in Scotland, including four of the five highest mountains in the UK. Within its boundaries are fine examples of classic features of a Highland landscape: remnants of the ancient Caledonian pine forest, heather moorland, juniper scrub and a part of the high Cairngorm plateau. Fifteen of the Trust's 46 Munros can be found in the Cairngorms around Mar Lodge. The estate is recognised as one of the most important nature conservation landscapes in the British Isles: over 40% of the estate is covered by national and international nature conservation designations.

The walks on the estate are beautiful and worth stopping off at if you are passing through Braemar, especially when the heather is out in August/September. The main house Mar Lodge has self catering units which look very well appointed. I would recommend a walk to Glen Quoich or Linn of Dee on the estate to see the beautiful waterfalls.

Have previously only visited this area in summer.
Well worth a visit in the winter. Loads of different walks or bike rides. Spectacular views of the mountains covered in snow. Lots of snow still lying about on the fields etc.
The Linn of Dee was amazing. The gorge had lots of snow turned into ice with huge icicles hanging down. Very beautiful.
Come and visit at different times if tear.well worth it.

Scottish scenery at its best. Mountains to climb, rivers to fish and just a brilliant area to chill out in. Braemar is a lovely wee village nearby. Go and enjoy.

The Lin of Dee at the bridge is amazing, but not fenced which is nice but care must be taken.I saw the biggest trout I've ever watched rising in the pools below the bridge.Of course he got camera shy. There are many walks on the Mar Estate with a pay and display parking facility and a lovey drive or push bike ride above the river to reach the area.

Worth a drive to see the waterfall. The way down to the river and falls is quite steep, may not be suitable for young kids or elderly. There are also walking trails which unfortunately we did not have time to explore. Would spend more time here next time!
