If you want bars and nightclubs, then this is most definitely not the place for you, but if, like us, you were looking for somewhere peaceful with great views over the hillsides, then this is where you should head.
Situated well up a Corrie above the hamlet of Tomnavoulin, on the Glen Livet Estate in the Cairngorms National Park, the cottage is well equipped and quite spacious for an old building. The owners (David & Carol) have thoughtfully provided various guide books showing the local fauna and flora, as well as folders with leaflets on things to see and do in the area. There is a small south facing garden which is ideal for catching the early morning, and late evening sunshine, and which has well stocked bird feeders. While we were there regular visitors included Greenfinch, Blue Tit, Chaffinch, Great Tit, Gold Finch, and Great Spotted Woodpecker - this is only a few feet from the kitchen window, so easy to get some great pictures with even the most basic of camera phones - thought the swallows flying round are not quite so easy to photograph!
Our only regret was that we didn't meet David earlier in our break, to let us take better advantage of his seemingly encyclopaedic knowledge of the area's wildlife, and where best to see different things. The weather was not too kind to us, but we still had a wonderful week, in a beautiful area, and would thoroughly recommend it without hesitation.
We have stayed in several cottages at Easter Corrie and have decided The Den is our favourite. It has lovely views, is well equipped and comfortable. The garden is a wildlife garden and you can sit inside and watch birds feeding. Our two dogs love it there too. We will certainly visit again and would recommend it to anyone.
Stayed here for a few days and thoroughly enjoyed this lovely cosy cottage. The owners too are very friendly and obliging and even gave our dogs some food as we had unfortunately left it in the accommodation we were at before this. The Den is definitely a chill out place with the opportunity to go out on safari to see the amazing wildlife Glenlivet has to offer - alas not enough time to do this but we may come back sometime in the future.
