We spent a pleasant morning in Kirriemuir on Saturday 6th August. On our way to Barrie’s birthplace we came across the Police Museum and decided to have a quick look. We were treated to a personal guided tour of the museum by one of the volunteers. It was really enjoyable and so much more interesting than just reading the labels on the exhibits. Some of the other volunteers are ex policeman and our guide was able to share some of their anecdotes, some of her own and information which other visitors had shared with them. There is a surprisingly large number of exhibits and photographs for the size of the museum. At the end we were allowed to try on the hats and get a photo in the cell next to Oor Wullie and PC Plod. It was good fun for us (three adults) and I am sure it would be even more appealing to families with children! Thanks Marilyn. (NB The museum is free)More

What a brilliant attraction and informative afternoon learning all about the history of policing in Tayside. This is a wee gem hidden away in Kirriemuir is a must for any tourist in town. Lots of banter with the guides who were able to relay stories about the exhibits and the hats uniforms and Oor Wullie murals on the cell walls for kids to get their pics taken with was a lovely touch. Sandwiched between the Glens Museum and Barrie's birthplace it was easy to reach and a great addition to local heritage attractions. Well done to all involved and to think they only ask for a donation, what's not to like ! I'd recommend this to anyone looking to while away a few hours in a day or with any interest in policing or how they catch the baddies !!
This is a brand new museum with lots of character. It is staffed with mainly ex-police officers who are able to give context around the exhibits and tell stories from their own experience. There are a lot of interesting displays set up within the old cells with opportunities for children to dress up in a variety of uniforms. A lovely way to spend an hour.
Lots of brilliant and interesting police history in this free museum. My police obsessed 7 year old thought it was wonderful. Great guided tour too. Thank you
Visited this museum on 23 June, what a wonderful attraction, well worth the time spent and shown round by very informative staff and shock was to find a photograph of my father when serving in the Dundee City police taken back in the 1950's in one of the rooms. Lots to see and take in, would recommend all to visit this museum.
