Chanced on the Polis Museum on our way to the excellent Bridges Café: recommend you have a look, as there's plenty of interest there! Informative guided tour, uniforms to try on. It minded me to actually visit the Glasgow one, some 35 years after I first thought about it...

We spent a pleasant morning in Kirriemuir on Saturday 6th August. On our way to Barrie’s birthplace we came across the Police Museum and decided to have a quick look. We were treated to a personal guided tour of the museum by one of the volunteers. It was really enjoyable and so much more interesting than just reading the labels on the exhibits. Some of the other volunteers are ex policeman and our guide was able to share some of their anecdotes, some of her own and information which other visitors had shared with them. There is a surprisingly large number of exhibits and photographs for the size of the museum. At the end we were allowed to try on the hats and get a photo in the cell next to Oor Wullie and PC Plod. It was good fun for us (three adults) and I am sure it would be even more appealing to families with children! Thanks Marilyn. (NB The museum is free)

What a brilliant attraction and informative afternoon learning all about the history of policing in Tayside. This is a wee gem hidden away in Kirriemuir is a must for any tourist in town. Lots of banter with the guides who were able to relay stories about the exhibits and the hats uniforms and Oor Wullie murals on the cell walls for kids to get their pics taken with was a lovely touch. Sandwiched between the Glens Museum and Barrie's birthplace it was easy to reach and a great addition to local heritage attractions. Well done to all involved and to think they only ask for a donation, what's not to like ! I'd recommend this to anyone looking to while away a few hours in a day or with any interest in policing or how they catch the baddies !!
