Returning to the Kintyre peninsula is always a pleasure for us.
Returning to our favourite restaurants is a great part of that pleasure, none more so than being guests of Alan and Alyson at their hotel Restaurant at Carradale.
We visited on the evening of 12th May, and were greeted with familiar warmth and brought into the lounge to join the other residents before dining.
Alan gets us our drinks, we choose from the amazing menu, which is very difficult, as the choices are superb! Dinner is served with all of Alyson and Alan's guests being guided to the dining room at the same time, with views overlooking the beautiful Bay, and every chance of our fish being caught out there that very morning, as the norm! Wines and spirits are of the finest choices too, and the family atmosphere coupled with food cooked by Alyson , and recommended in the good food guide is a journey in itself which you just do not wish to end!

Room Tip: There is good wheelchair access to ground floor room, and sea views are so lovely and peaceful all a...

Needed to stay in Carradale and chose the Dunvalanree, an excellent choice. Sadly arrived too late for dinner but had been offered a cold plate. Had a glass of most pleasant red wine with Alan and a chat to unwind from the 4 hour journey from Edinburgh. I stayed in the Macintosh room, a homage (pastiche to the purist) to Glasgow's iconic architect but most importantly very comfortable bed and fine quality bed linens. The offer of real milk in a jug is just one of the many small signs of hospitality that abounded during my stay. Awoke to a fabulous view of the small beach in a bay 50 m away from the front.
Breakfast was perfect, freshly squeezed orange juice, local wild smoked salmon, scrambled eggs from their own hens made perfectly, proper toast, homemade jar of marmalade, dish of homemade raspberry jam - frankly delicious & faultless with a view and table linen. A great Scottish small hotel not without being idiosyncratic but the food, comfort and location are worth a special trip.

Room Tip: stay to the front of the buiding

It's been ten years since we last stayed here. Busy jobs, a couple of kids and a new home 7hours drive away have all conspired to keep us away. Alan and Alyson were as welcoming and the atmosphere as convivial as it always was. The bedrooms were very comfortable and warm, and the public rooms tasteful. The food to my mind is probably better than it was ten years ago- Alyson's skills seem to have evolved over time and dinner on all three nights we stayed (6th-9th April) had a varied choice showcasing her considerable skill at cooking seafood in particular. She also cooked a delcious high tea for our kids each night allowing us to enjoy our evening meal in peace. It's the small touches like that count and we were really happy with the level of commitment to our comfort and enjoyment of our holiday. We hope to be back very soon- long drive or not. I'm looking forward to it already!

Alyson and Alan were great hosts. It doesn't feel as much like a hotel as staying with your favorite relatives. I was there at a very odd time when they weren't doing evening meals, so only got to eat breakfast there (and one dinner on my last day), but was very happy with both the accommodation and meals. Rooms are top-notch, and the front rooms have a fantastic view of the bay. This place is definitely recommended!

A wonderful experience, lovely comfy, cosy bedrooms, very relaxing. Fantastic views.
Delicious food prepared by Alyson. Alan is a perfect host, chatting to his dinner guests in the
warm friendly reception/ lounge where pre dinner drinks are served, just perfect!!
We stayed in the hotel in April and had such a beautiful meal we went back for dinner in September. So good.

Room Tip: if you can ask for a sea view

We booked with high expectations of excellent facilities and superb food, having been twice before. We weren't disappointed by Alan's warm welcome and the cosy, spotless room. The food though exceeded even our high expectations, with Alison's menus showcasing beautiful local produce which were then exquisitively cooked.

Recently had dinner at Dunvalanree twice whilst staying at Carradale.
This place is a treasure of a find, and we had the freshest of local fair, cooked to heavenly perfection by Alyson, served by Alan, and you can't dine in many places where the host places the 'catch of the day' fresh brown trout before you on your plate !
A must stop for warmest welcomes, and I am returning in September for more laughter and great food, ........cannot wait !

Room Tip: I did not have the pleasure of staying, but my friend did, and she was so well looked after ,just li...
