“Carradale is the best part of Kintyre and Dunvalanree is a lovely place to stay”
Reviewed 6 August 2007

Food was lovely, views stunning. We liked the fact we could dump the car and get out and enjoy the walks.

Carradale is gorgeous and I can't imagine a more beautiful place to stay. The accommodation was grand - we stayed in room 7 which over looks a small beach & the golf course. The room & bathroom were luxurious.

It's a very sociable hotel - guests are invited to gather in the lounge for drinks before dining, and there is an extensive wine list and a la carte menu which changes daily, and the food is simply delicious.

We lodged on a D,B&B basis which I think is the only basis on offer, but the food and service were excellent so we got value for money.

We would go back. Don't bother going to Campbeltown, just head for Carradale. The main town is so disappointing it's such a relief when you reach Carradale.

I stayed at the Dumvalanree in June 2007 whilst on a business trip to both Campbeltown and Lochgilphead.

The hotel was a revelation. Being more used to business class hotels it was very refreshing to stay at somewhere with such friendly service. There was a small problem with my first room and when this couldn't be fixed Alysson immediately gave me another with a view of the bay!

Alysson is also responsible for the varied menu. Although if you enjoy seafood you will be well catered for.

Other correspondents have complained about the procedure at dinner. It should be remembered that this is a small hotel. Booking ahead for dinner is essential. Dinner orders are taken in the lounge at around 7:00PM and this means that the dinner is freshly prepared, cooked and ready for serving by 8:00PM. This gives you a chance for a drink and conversation with your fellow guests (if you feel like doing so!).

The location overlooking the bay is very peaceful. All in all an enjoyable stay

Location, Location, Location, this is the assset of this small friendly hotel at Carradale, great views from the front rooms of the hotel. We stayed with friends for one night in April 2007, on our way to Islay. Dunvalanree was good location for staying before catching the ferry to Islay, also giving us the opportunity to visit Campbelltown and take in Springbank Distillery.
Some of the earlier reviews are a bit harsh, our room was on the front with good views of the bay towards the golf course. The room was perhaps a bit small when configured as a double not too much space between the bed and wall, but was clean and fresh. Good to see touches like local pottery being used in the bedroom tea service and the wee whisky minature welcome gift.
We were the only guests staying at the time, no problem with service, nice welcome from both owners and pleasant conservation. Including an ever welcome cup of tea in the lounge.
Dinner was good, cream of wild garlic soup, sea bass for starter, rack of lamb and followed by local cheese. There was a good choice available, all four of us enjoyed the meal and the attentive service.
Coffee and tea was taken in the lounge. It was good to see a party of locals in for dinner equally appreciating the cooking skills of Alyson.
One big plus for those who appreciate a dram was the extensive whisky list, this was a nice surprise to us, listing over 50 malts, good going for a hotel of this size, we sampled a few, the prices were fair.
Breakfast was served at the same window table where we had watched bats dart around the sky the previous evening, this morning it was the wild goats eating the garden plants. Good hearty breakfast well cooked and presented.
We were off immediately after breakfast but well pleased with our choice of Dunvalanree for our stop over.

I have stayed here and eaten here several times now and have had on all occasions, had a superb time and enjoyed wonderful home cooked locally sourced food. If you are into big prefabicated characterless hotels this is not the place to stay but if you like somewhere individual and offering the very best of Scotland and its hospitality then I think you should try this place!

The views are truly fantastic and if you are lucky enough to get some good weather, you wont find a more beautiful place to wake up! And that leads me on to the breakfast which was excellent and try the fab porridge!

This is the place to come for a few days if you are not in a rush and need a peaceful getaway and as far as I am concerned this is pretty much unbeatable!

Enjoy we certainly did!
