We didn't quite know what to expect at the Ashbank Hotel because from the outside it looked more like a B&B, however we were more than pleasantly surprised.
Sharon was a fabulous host and the Hotel has a true "family values" atmosphere, the village comradery was evident on a number of occasions with a genuine warmth and a desire to help all.
Breakfast was fantastic, cooked to order, all dietary requirements catered for and a selection of cereal, fresh fruit and fruit juices were on offer along with toast & preserves followed by a cooked breakfast if required.
The menu was extensive, with light breakfasts, healthy options and alternatives to the fabulous belly busting traditional Scottish fare.
Our room was clean, warm and comfortable with tea and coffee making facilities, a super bathroom, again, clean, with heated towel rail and a brilliant powerful, hot, over the bath shower.
Nothing was too much trouble for Sharon our host and her knowledge of the local area was helpful and accurate.
Carradale Bay ( a rather deceptively large sandy beach /cove with direct access from the grass covered car park) made for a beautiful setting to make a brew with our small but adequate camping stove. Be sure to take directions from Sharon and follow the Port Righ signs NOT the Waterfoot signs, also beware that 2 farmers fields need to be crossed and the odd Aberdeen Angus herd of cattle may be munching on nearby delicacies of grass!! They move relatively easily and are obviously used to traffic, it merely added to our adventure!!
The fully licensed bar on the ground-floor doubles as the dining room for Dinner (in season) and breakfast. Locals pop in and the selection of rare and diverse Gins along with Arran Ales is superb. Off road parking is available, if spaces are full, there is also plenty of room directly outside of the property. The views nearby are stunning, the village is picturesque and although off the beaten track it is an ideal stop over for discovery of the East coast of Kintyre either North to Tarbert or south to Campbeltown/Southend. We were fortunate enough to see the headland of Northern Ireland from Southend which is approx 12 miles over sea.
The hotel may seem a little dated in decor to some, it was quaint to us with pictures and photographs depicting historic scenes that Sharon was more than happy to explain to us.A surprise to us was the option of Dinner, we were unaware that this was offered, although I would suggest booking due to the popularity and the intimate amount of tables.
We enjoyed Kintyre so much that we booked a further night at the Ashbank and on checking out it was as though we were saying goodbye to old friends. Without hesitation, we would stay again and we felt that we need not bother looking for alternative accommodation in the area as the Ashbank catered for all of our needs. Above all it was incredibly reasonably priced and compared to other establishments that we booked during our stay in Scotland, it was superior to many.

Paid a second enjoyable visit of the year to Carradale & again stayed at the Ashbank Hotel. The owners of the hotel go out of their way to ensure that all your needs are catered for. The rooms are immaculate, the food, both dinner & breakfast are great & Carradale itself is fabulous in the sunshine. Having had connections with Carradale over the years, it’s good to see new folk settling into the area with fresh ideas to market the village. In this regard Sharon & John, the proprietors of Ashbank are doing a fantastic job. I cannot recommend Ashbank highly enough, a first class family run hotel which is a delight to stay in.

We loved our stay at the Ashbank, from the warm welcome, immaculately clean rooms to the fab breakfast in the morning. The owners were very welcoming and extremely knowledgeable about the surrounding area and gave us some great advice of where to visit. Looking forward to staying again very soon. Highly recommended.

Although only a small establishment situated in small village well off the usual tourist routes, the welcome and cheerful attention to their guests comfort from Sharon and her family was exceptional. The rooms are small but all basic necessities are supplied and it has to be remembered that you are not in a 5star establishment in a major city. Meals are taken in the very intimate dining room, are very tasty and food is sourced locally where possible. Would we stay again if in Kintyre? Certainly.
