“Great hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 August 2014

We stayed in the Kilfinan hotel in August for 3 nights, its a small rural hotel and we were made to feel so welcome by the owner Helen, and Maddie who looks after the front of house. We were meeting up with Family who were staying across the road in Kilfinan House. We had a great family room which was clean, bright and comfortable and recently refurbished. This consisted of 2 spacious rooms with a shared bathroom. Breakfast was fantastic, freshly cooked to order and a pleasant change from the major hotels buffet style breakfast. We had dinner on two nights one of them being a family gathering of 21 people, We were seated in the function room and Helen who does all the cooking, Maddie and young Sophie pulled out all the stops by providing a fantastic meal using locally sourced ingredients. Kilfinan Hotel is an hour from Dunoon on narrow country roads and is somewhere to get away from the rush of modern living. There is limited wi-fi and mobile phone reception so the teens will have withdrawal symptoms but you will receive great hospitality! Thanks for a great break!

What a surprising and enjoyable experience staying at the Kilfinin Hotel. The rain had been throwing it down and we were a pretty bedraggled party when we arrived. My husband and I had booked in one night as our son and family were sailing in the area and we met them at Otter Ferry. The welcome we received was so warm, we all forgot about the weather immediately and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. the hospitality was out of this world and nothing was too much for our hosts to supply. A little pearl worth keeping in its present format, and I feel I want to keep it secret so that we can return whenever we want. The scenery all around was stunning as we were able to view it in the sunshine the next day and our family were able to join us for breakfast too. Would definitely return to this little bit of heaven as you would never tire of the outstanding hospitality and beautiful scenery.

Our party of five was treated like royalty before, during, and after dinner in this charming hotel and restaurant. The fresh menu featured vegetables grown in the hotel garden, with entrees such as guinea hen, venison, and langoustines, and the best sticky toffee pudding I've ever had. Ask Helen or Madeline to show you the guest registries from the Great War and WWII. Truly fascinating. We were kindly shown the guest bedrooms; I'd recommend those above the bar and dining room, which feature high ceilings and ample space. Several have views of Loch Fyne.

This was our 5th stay at The Kilfinan, this time for 2 nights. Madelon and Helen are always friendly and caring, going the extra mile to accommodate our particular needs. The area has outstanding wildlife (I have a special interest in the bugs), including within the private grounds of the hotel itself. And then there are the local walks; if you want solitude and to be one with nature this is a must do destination.

Located in a beautiful and semi remote part of Argyll but you can travel to so many places in a short time. Kilfinan is a great place to have as a base for touring. The hotel itself is very comfortable and has real character. The best thing though is the people with Madelon and Helen being such great hosts. We would go back without hesitation

We stayed at the Kilfinan for 2 nights while visiting the area to learn about my husband's Scottish heritage. The hotel is located in a beautiful part of Argyll right on Loch Fyne and sits within a large pastoral estate. It is a long drive on narrow roads but the location is idyllic. Helen was very responsive leading up to our stay and helped us schedule a meeting with the knowledgeable local historian (who we visited with in the cozy hotel pub and next door at the historic church). We were greeted warmly by Madelon and made to feel at home immediately. The room was large and comfortable and the food (we enjoyed both breakfast and dinner here) was outstanding. High quality local ingredients prepared fresh by Helen and exactly as requested. It is a very small staff but you would never know it by the way your every need is met. Madelon was typically in 3 different places at any given time but never lost a beat - not sure when she sleeps :) Thank you so much for a wonderful stay- someday we hope to return!

Room Tip: We only experienced the one room (11?) but it was roomy, quiet and comfortable with a lovely view of...

We recently spent four relaxing nights at the hotel. No TV, wifi or mobile phone reception so a lovely chance to unwind and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
We had a lovely room and large en suite.
The food was good but a few more specials for dinner would have been welcome.
Special mention must be made about Madelon, the only staff member we actually saw during our stay. She is amazing and a real asset to the hotel. She is so warm and cheery a real pleasure to have met her.
Hopefully we will return in the not too distant future.
