“Nice comfortable Hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 August 2007

Used Trip Advisor to locate this small traditional hotel. Very very quiet location in a tremendously attractive area. Comfortable hotel, nice cosy bars and good food. Well located to explore both the Cowal Peninsula and Kintyre (via the Portavadie / Tarbert Ferry). Although the roads are narrow, they're very quiet and take you through some fantastic scenery. Well worth a stay.

My Husband and I stayed at the Kilfinan Hotel for 4 days over New Year 2006/2007. We met up with some friends here and had a wonderful time. We received a warm welcome from the owners Andrew & Helen and will definately be returning in the summer.

The rooms were very clean and well equiped (hair dryers, tea & coffee facilities etc) and are all en suite.

We enjoyed some excellent meals over the course of our stay and i was very plesantly suprised at the amount of choice and the variation on the menu with Vegetarians also being well catered for.

They have a lovely bar with a real fire and a huge selection of Whisky and on New Years Eve they had a ceilidh which everyone joined in with. At midnight we headed out to the small church next door to hear the bells ring as Andrew & Helen handed out a choice of Whisky or Champagne, & Haggis, Neeps and Tatties to us all!

The hotel is in a remote setting which has beautiful scenery and its only a short car journey to the shops if you really need one. I only wish the weather had been slightly better so that we could have got out and done a little more walking but we'll cover that part in our summer trip.

This place is well worth a visit and i can honestly say i had one of the best New Years i've ever had here.

We spent 3 days over New Year with kids, to include New Year's Eve. Nothing about our time spent there could be faulted. The hotel is a fantastic retreat for anyone wanting to unwind. The hospitality shown by the hosts, Andrew, Helen and family, who took over the hotel 6 months ago, was simply superb. Nothing was too much effort and the food, in particular, was excellent, particularly the fresh oysters and scallops from nearby Loch Fyne.

New Year's Eve itself was a superb night, which included an excellent evening meal followed by a Ceilidh with the locals and then champagne, haggis, neeps and tatties at midnight.

We will definitely return and as soon as we possibly can.

It was a last minute decision to go to Scotland for a short break. We were looking for somewhere not too far from Glasgow (we were travelling from Northwest England), somewhere quiet, but with stunning scenery. We decided on the Cowal Penninsular, and picked the Kilfinan Hotel by chance after searching the internet.

We were not disappointed. The hotel is remote. Kilfinan is halfway along the mainly single track road that runs along the western side of the Cowal Penninsular. The scenery on the Cowal Penninsular is stunning with the Kyles of Bute and the Island of Bute within easy reach.

We were made extremely welcome by Helen and Andrew who took over the hotel earlier this summer. There is obviously still work to be done as far as the decor is concerned, but the hotel and rooms were very clean with all the comforts that we expected - our room had a lovely view of the Loch. The food was excellent, especially the fantastic cooked breakfasts! The lounge and bar were comfortable and homely with a good range of whiskies. We certainly hope to return.

When we arrived at the Kilfinan Hotel, we were bowled over by the welcome we received from the new owners (they had just bought the hotel over only 2 weeks previously) and after the long single track journey (please don't let that put you off-it's worth it),we found exactly what we were expecting and more. Being in the hotel trade, I'm pretty fussy when it comes to staying in them. So what if the decor's not bang up to date, the room was spotless, extremely comfortable and everything was in great working order.
The food was so good, especially the local Kilfinan Breakfast, the views are stunning, the bar is inviting (the after dinner cocktails are especially reccommended). This place is a one-off and we'll definitely go back!

This hotel was well worth the exciting drive to get there. It offers spectacular views, a welcoming atmosphere and a perfect place to get away from it all.

The owners were very friendly, right down to offering me an extemely useful (and tasty) introduction to the huge variety of whiskies they have in the bar.

Food is excellent, and by far the best you can get locally.

The previous review mentions a need to update the decor but I disagree. If you're in Scotland and want to stay in a contemporary hotel Glasgow is for you - this building is a historic Coaching Inn and I think spotlights, laminate flooring and modern art prints would spoil it!

Excellent.

This place takes some finding, particularly on a gloomy wet day in September. It's worth the journey, though, and is welcoming in a rather dark and slightly shabby way. It is comfortable and clean but would be better if more attention was paid to updating the decor. There were only 2 other people staying there when I visited but the hosts were generous in their hospitality. If you ever get lost near Loch Fyne, look out for this small hotel.
