A very wet short section on WHW from King's House. We even had hailstones on the Devil's Staircase!! So you can imagine we were looking for warm shelter.
Stayed at the Macdonald hotel before so we aimed straight for it, no disappointment - friendly welcome on reception - great soak in the bath - excellent pint and Venison Lasagne - brill breakfast served early at our request 07.45.
The hostess has a fab dry sense of humour which added a fine dimension to our stopover.

Having just spent a Saturday night in the MacDonald, I really struggle to understand some of the negative feedback left here, other than to say you can't please all the people, all the time, no matter what you offer. Some people just like to complain for the sake of complaining. So, moving on! We spent a few hours, before checking in, having a few drinks in the Bothy Bar; not even some of the classic Walkers' hotels (Drovers, Bridge of Orchy, Kings House etc) come close to offering views to be seen here. Choice of drinks for a small bar was excellent.... a few good quality CAMRA type ales, plus an extensive range of malts. We also had lunch in the bar.... 2 excellent quality meals at attractive prices. We then checked into our room; clean, well appointed, tea/coffee facilities etc etc.... decent sized bathroom, complete with bath. We weren't doing the WHW this time, but any walker will appreciate the availability of a hot bath after a long walk...especially at the end of a day involving the Devil's Staircase. Dinner that night? Same as lunch; excellent meal, no messing about. Some great stuff on the specials board. Finally.... breakfast..... easy choice, i went for the full boofter. Price was included in the room rate, but I understand if you're camping, you can get it for £6. Six quid? For a full plate of breakfast, coffee, toast, juice, cereal..... say no more. My only regret ref the breakfast was that I hadn't gone for the kippers...first class. So, overall, if you're looking for, and expecting, a 5* Hilton type of stay, then......er.... don't be a daftie! For what you're paying, this is a great wee place to stay. PS; the genuine friendliness of the staff and owners, as well as the unbeatable location..... are free.

I stayed here recently with a friend as the last stop on The West Highland Way. Having stayed there on two previous occasions I had no hesitation in booking again due to the warm welcome from the owners. However, I didn't know that the hotel had changed hands since my last stay. The breakfast times are between 8am and 9.30am and previously the past owners were very flexible if you required an earlier start. This is not the case now. After a long exchange the new owner grudgingly agreed to serving us 10 minutes before 8am! In an attempt to convince her we suggested only having a bowl of porridge but that only encouraged her to scoff at the fact we'd only take 10 minutes max to eat it so what difference would that make! She also said we would get to Fort William around 2pm and would find ourselves bored with nothing to do. Something I'm sure Fort William council would be happy to hear! Uncooperative and confrontational. Will be my last stay there.

I don't usually respond to the reviews but my recollection of events is quite different. Yes you did ask for an early breakfast. I started giving you some options when you told me you just wanted a bowl of porridge and as you wanted to leave by 8.00am you would only need it 10 minutes early. I even asked you if you were sure. Arrangements were made so that the dining room was opened at 7.45 for you. You even laughed and thanked me. If you weren't happy with that arrangement, perhaps you should have told me at the time.

We camped here and it was ok though the ground was very stony, meaning most tent pegs were only half in, which was fine as it wasn't at all windy (which was not fine coz of the midges, but that's not the hotel's fault!) we ate in the Bothy Bar and the food was decent, drink fine. Nothing especially to recommend or advise against (other than stony ground :-)) - we did not rely on their breakfast as it was so late, 8am start is late in anyone's book, there was also the roaming Irish Wolfhound from next door who was a worry for us campers, given he looked like he'd be in the tents in a flash!

The hotel is a little basic but the food was great, the beer was cold, the bath water was hot and the bed was comfy. Just what you need after a long walk! If I was back in Kinlochleven I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

Arrived at the hotel late in the evening after a long walk feeling exhausted and done. The welcome cheered us up immediately and the large clean room with a hot bath revived us. This was the most welcoming hotel we stayed in during our trip, the staff in the bar, the food, the reception was all first class. The bar and the dinning room are a bit worn and old fashioned but with the welcome and service that is not an issue. Breakfast was lovely and again the staff chatted and interacted with the guests in a most welcoming and friendly way.
Kinlochleven is the last stop on the way to Fort William on the west highland way and this hotel is a good a place in the village to stay as any.....
