Arrriving at the Argyll Inn to spend the weekend in Scotland for a friend's wedding, for £75 a night for a twin room, we were expecting a little more than a badly decorated room with a horrendous noise problem! The room was dull with off-white wood chip wallpaper, two clean but fairly indiscriminate beds, and possibly the worst noise problem in Scotland! We were staying in room 6 which is directly above the bar, and its safe to say that we didn't get to sleep until gone 3am due to the noise downstairs in the bar! The pissheads rolling out into the street we're followed by people running up and down the stairs, opening and closing doors and we could hear every step. Basically, if someone farted or sneezed, you heard it! Quite possibly the worst night's sleep I've ever had! We alsonoticed that there was a halloween party booked in the bar until 2am on the saturday night so awoken bleary - eyed by noise from the road, we decided to look for another B+B for the saturday night.

Having said that, once we got downstairs to breakfast, we almost forgot how bad a night's sleep we'd had because the lady was so friendly and the breakfast was delicious!!! The bar and restaurant downstairs is newly refurbished and the menu also looked impressive. The lady as incredibly appologetic for the noise, but unfortunately it still wasn't enough to get us to stay another night and we checked out just after breakfast.

We didnt actually stay at the Argyll Hotel as we were staying at the caravan park but ate there about 6 times during our stay. All the food was cooked to order and was excellent, especially the seafood. Nice friendly staff and reasonable prices. Would definately recommend.

We didn't stay here but popped in for a drink or two one damp Monday late afternoon. At first we were the only ones in but a few more visitors came in whilst we were there and were welcomed in the same friendly and warm way as us. Nothing was too much trouble, the bar manager put the tv on for us in our corner as we couldn't quite hear the football from the tv in the other corner. As we now know from this site, we were served by the landlord and landlady (at different times) and both were friendly and welcoming as were the bar manager and other lady, all willing to make small talk with these strangers who had come into their bar. We originally left the dog in the car but one quick enquiry later and she too was soaking up the atmosphere and given a bowl of water and a fuss. Alas we didn't get to sample the menu although it looked full of home cooked delicious bar meals and had time not been against us we would indeed have returned!

The owners are a very nice couple and are eager to help in any way they can, the food is of a good standard and not expensive for the area. The rooms are very well presented and kept ingood order daily and the showers are very efficient. The room that Istayed in was above the public bar and there was very little noise to be heard at night. As I started work on a morning before breakfast was served there was a packed lunch supplied for me daily.
