We are staying near Lochgilphead and were looking for somewhere to have dinner. I'm glad we chose the Argyle inn as it was comfy and cosy, lovely food and great value for money. We shared some wedges to start followed by a venison and haggis burger for my husband and Cajun chicken and chips for me. The food was lovely although the cajun chick was a bit too spicey for me. We also had 2bottles if blue wkd and a pint of lager and it came to £30. The man behind the bar could not help enough,he even asked if we wanted a jug of hot water when he seen my daughters bottle of milk sitting in the table.

Well worth a visit for a homely atmosphere, great service and value for money.

Up here on business, the welcome very friendly, as one local said "the nice bar" shown to my room, basic but very clean, and at £40 B&B good value. Food good honest grub, presented well & home made. Try the fish cakes... Stunning flavour. Over all if you want a clean, nice, friendly place to stay or eat, this is it! Thankyou

First of all may i apologise to the Argyll Inn for this review not going on sooner.I thought i'd uploaded my review from my mobile whilst i was there but i have noticed it didnt upload then so here it is..... My wife and i called here with our chihuahua's for a quick bar snack and ended up staying the afternoon. We were all made to feel most welcome by the friendly and helpful staff and the local characters who were buying us drinks despite having only just met us . The food although simple was cooked perfectly and well presented . The haggis with black pudding and goats cheese was excellent and the homemade fishcakes were spot on.
We will definitely be back to the Argyll Inn on our next visit to the area.

After a long drive down to Cambeltown, we were on our way back to Strachur, and stopped to fill up the car and asked where we could get an evening meal. We were recommended The Argyll Inn. The girl behind the bar was very welcoming and friendly and served us with drinks. We asked to see a menu and were asked to take a seat. Five minutes later she took our order. The food and service was excellent and the meals hot and very tasty. Will call again when we are in the area.

Clean but sparce bedroom bathroom was really just a box, no views but central location. Really very average souless rooms. Breakfast was fry up or cerial, no fruit, no porridge not my cup of tea or instant coffee! In this day and age would it be so much to ask to get a real coffee in the morning!
The staff at breakfast looked vacant and just as souless as the rooms.
There seemed to be workmen in every other room so more a workies place than a Hotel..

Room Tip: Go elsewhere for a better room..

Hi Kristyl C

I am sorry that your stay was only average as we try our best to make all guests feel welcome and normally all staff are chatty with people whether it be morning, night or day.

I dont have the views that some of the B & B's have but cant do anything about it hence we are used by workmen but we do get tourists and foreign tourists as well and they normally let us know that they have found the rooms fine.

I had only taken over the hotel for 5 months when you stayed and have been making improvements all the time. But I take on board your comments and when funds become available we will be looking to upgrade the rooms and add a few soft touches to them.

Yours
Karen Ellis

We were made so welcome at this lovely hotel for a three night stay. The new owners and the staff (since February 2012) were very friendly and helpful, especially as the previous owners had not passed on our booking details from the previous October! Our room was clean and comfortable with a huge bathroom and we were not disturbed by late night noise, even though the bar is open until 1am!
The breakfast was excellent and the evening meals either in the bar or the restaurant were really good too, combined with excellent service, so that after the first evening we continued to eat there from a varied and reasonably priced menu. The new owners are making a big impact with a current refurbishment of the bar area and a future upgrade for the accommodation. We were made to feel very much at home and will stay there again when next in the area.

We overnighted here whilst touring and found the room very clean and comfortable. We were not bothered by any noise from the bar and the breakfast was excellent.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Blair and Steven welcome you to The Argyll Inn, a wee gem in the heart of Argyll. Our main bar is a lively, sports oriented bar with snooker table, darts board and serving an array of popular drafts, bottles, and spirits, as well as soft drinks. We are open 11am - 1am daily, 7 days a week. With almost weekly events, we are sure that you will enjoy the welcoming atmosphere and great caric from our staff and locals alike. Come and sit a while by the log fire, have a dram & relax. The Argyll Inn is undergoing a period of substantial renovation, including a full new kitchen and construction of a lounge bar next door to the main bar. Here we hope to offer a wide range of specialty whiskies, bottled craft beer and a low key atmosphere. We hope to cater to the discerning punter who enjoys a quieter place for a drink, soundtracked with regular acoustic sessions from local and not so local musicians. Out room offerings are a combination of single, double, twin and family rooms which can accommodate any type of guest. The rooms are basic, but clean and comfortable and are suitable for those who are looking for a stop over in Lochgilphead at great value. Currently we are offering room only rates but once our kitchen is up and running at the end of August we will offer B&B and dinner packages. ... more   less
