After a day out in Oban footsore and very hot we stopped at The Argyll Inn for refreshing drink. It was busy and the food being served looked appetising. I ordered a starter of Buffalo Wings in a spicy dressing as I was not very hungry and my partner had the gammon steak with chips and a fried egg. The meals were served very quickly and my accompanying salad was crisp and fresh the spicy sauce was delicious and I wish I had had it as a full meal. Washed down with a cool Guinness it was lovely.
The staff are friendly and efficient and the Landlady has a smile for everyone.

The restaurant wasn't busy when we arrived and while we decided on what we wanted to eat, we ordered a drink from the bar. The waiter took our order, only to come back and say there was none left. We ordered something different, only to be told again that it was not available!! We did manage to get something eventually. I felt sorry for him as it wasn't his fault. Thing was that it was a Saturday night and still quite early, so goodness knows what the later diners would be having for their meal. Only compensation was that we were given our drinks, compliments of the house!

Having entered this establishment on a cold afternoon, the welcome from the barman soon warmed us up, he came over to the table, had a crack with us while taking our orders, when the food came it was excellent, very well cooked and hot. Have been their before received an excellent meal, and was not disappointed this time either. Highly recommended.

We were visiting Lochgilphead for the Institution of the new Rector of Christ Church and were here for one night only. I found the Argyll Inn on the Internet.

I have to say that our first impressions here were not good - a rather dingy set of stairs led up from the bar to a gloomy corridor. Initially, the room (room 8) failed to impress either, it looked rather tired, fitted with very basic furniture with a tiny flat screen TV. However things got better. The room was beautifully warm and the bedding was spotlessly clean. The shower room was good too - it looked like it has been recently refurbished and offered a really spacious, very hot and very clean shower along with plenty of high quality towels.

The room overlooked the main street, the window was double glazed and we were not troubled by the main street traffic.

We had a good sleep. Breakfast was quite superb, really excellently cooked with good quality bacon, excellent Stornaway black pudding and wonderful haggis. We had eaten here the previous day and had been served a simply excellent meal of scallops served on black pudding and glazed with a hint of garlic.

The welcome from the owner/landlady was lovely and, if we return to Lochgilphead, we shall certainly stay here again.

Looking for a good lunch while cycling (yes in November) on the Crinan Canal, we found a well rated cafe full and next tried the Argyll Inn. A traditional pub: stone floor, central bar, wood fire, tv screens (only one on, playing music). A very good choice of food: we had scallops on black pudding, and three-cheese macaroni, with cask cider. Friendly service, papers to read and all in all just what we were looking for. Many thanks.
