Excellent wee stay for a couple of nights. Nice and quiet and great wee kitchen. Plenty walks and beautiful scenery.

“Courtyard Apt - Basic Amenities / Tranquil Location”
Reviewed 12 June 2017 for a stay in June 2017

This review relates to the Courtyard Apartment, inside the main building and not to the separate cottages.

The owners were both friendly and helpful especially as arrived later than anticipated. The reception area is as advertised - full of DVDs, maps and books as well as a fridge with "ready meals" for those in need. A great idea though not tried.

The accommodation was solely used for the week as a place to sleep & have breakfast.

Indeed, I would recommend this particular apartment purely for those who are going out each and every day rather than as a place to "sit at home" as it did not have a cosy cottage feel to it and is in need of re-decoration and improvement to its living room and bedroom furnishings. It is not a modern look. But, it was spotlessly clean.

Views from the living room were limited due to the prevalence of tall trees blocking the mountainside over Glenn Etive

This is why I rated the place as "average" as it is not *all* things to all people and in need of decoration/furnishings upgrade.

But, for a "sleep & go out every day " place it represents *very* good value out of season.

The access to the accommodation is via a tight stair well so would not suit anyone with mobility issues.

The kitchen was excellent - fully equipped with a matching crockery & cutlery sets (a bug bear of mine if self-catering places provide mismatched items) and complete with fully fitted cupboards. There is plenty of space to store your own food items and good worktop areas for those who prefer to eat home on an evening. There is no breakfast bar/table however, if you prefer that style. Instead, the living room had an old fashioned drop-leaf table and (padded) chairs.

On an evening, when wanting to relax after a day out, the two-seated sofa was fine, though old, but lacking cushions as a finishing touch. Alas, there were no side or coffee tables to place your cups of tea/glass of wine, so drinks were on the floor.

The bathroom was clean though decorated in a clinical, cold manner and with a fixed headed shower over the bath so would not be good for those with mobility issues. The shower worked well and was hot. I would have liked to have seen a bath mat provided and shelving for toiletries items which had to be placed on the floor.

The central heating was programmed via a usual wall timer, and radiators were in every room. The cost was included in the price.

The accommodation, with its ample parking, is set in tranquil surroundings but in wet conditions walking to the lake would need wellies or decent *waterproofed* hiking boots.

The local village shop "Grahams" caters 7am-10pm for what I would say are mainly basic items, but does provide fresh veg, dairy and various condiments but limited fresh meat. There is a butchers opposite.

Overall, the accommodation was clean, the owners welcoming, the location peaceful being out of town, and with mountain scenery immediately in the vicinity and good access to the main road for Oban or Loch Awe.

Hi Thank you for your comprehensive review and comments. Many of your suggestions are already planned for the coming winter and we will make a note of the others. Courtyard has only been opened up to guests recently and we are aware in one or two areas it doesn't quite match up to our other properties, though that is reflected in the price.
