“Stunning views from The Oystercatcher”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 July 2014 via mobile

Just had a lovely weekend on Loch Fyne and one of the highlights was a nightcap at The Oystercatcher. Friendly staff and a great atmosphere. Beautiful location and an unforgettable view as the sun set over the loch. If you are in the area, pop in and enjoy!

“Secret coast gem”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 July 2014

The 'secret coast' of Cowal, only just across the Clyde from Glasgow, is a little known treasure trove of scenic beauty, interesting inns, good food, and VERY relaxing surroundings.

The Oystercatcher is a sparkling gem of this treasure, tucked round the corner of the west coast Cowal on Loch Fyne, the longest sea loch in Scotland. Today, a gorgeous summer's day of blue water and bright sunshine, was ideal to drive down the remote single-track road running down the Loch Fyne coast and enjoy this beautifully situated hostelry. What could be more delightful than the smiling welcome of the owner, the tasting of the new ales until we decided which one we preferred, then, seated on the greensward outside, looking over the beach, the jetty, the pretty boats, the lovely loch, we proceeded to enjoy a feast. Excellent mussels in a creamy sauce, salmon and prawn penne, black pudding done deliciously with an apple compote and mango salsa, garlic prawns with spicy dip. This is 'gastro pub' Highland style - none of the fancy stuff, just honestly good food, friendly and efficient service from the young staff, very reasonable prices - and the big PLUS of a most beautiful setting.

I know the Oystercatcher should be much better known and this review might help that, but I hope it won't become TOO popular - it's such a peaceful, pleasant spot. If it was anywhere else on a day like today it would be teeming. But tucked away in an obscure corner of Cowal, you could be on a tropical island with only a few cognoscenti for company.

“Eating sea flavours”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 July 2014

I was here with my family in a sunny day of July. We ate oysters, mussels and fish...and local ales. It was like eating the essences of the Loch Fyne. Extraordinary expereince.

“Beautiful spot”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 July 2014 via mobile

I have rated this pub restaurant as very good mainly because of its location in the midst of world class scenery. Without that I would rate the place a notch down. The day we were there the weather was beautiful and we enjoyed a light lunch of really good tarts and salad but the menu looked like competent bar food.
The pub interior is well appointed but outside there is a lovely grassed area with tables and chairs and a few metres beyond the beautiful Loch Fyne we saw Yachties anchor and come in for a pint which all adds to the atmosphere. The place is isolated but well worth a patient drive along single track roads. Highly recommend in good weather.

“"The Oystercatcher", Otter Ferry, Tighnabruaich - Stunning Setting”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 June 2014

Stunning setting, what more can I say.
Had lunch here a week ago in stunning sunshine, looking out over Loch Fyne. What a view.
Boats arrived, had lunch, and sailed on. We came by car, fantastic views on c road over the back of the hill from Dunoon.
Food was good and service friendly.
Friendly dogs for petting.
Well worth a visit.
