The views are to die for day or night. The location is within 4-5 minutes to centre of town.Parking is outside the front door of the apartment and if you get the weather you'll not want to leave. It was a very enjoyable stay. Thanks Katrina and Greg.
We spent one week in the Academy apartment, and we really enjoyed it.
The views are phantastic! The apartment had plenty of space for us and it was equipped with everything we needed.
The furnishings are tastefully designed, the bed is very comfortable, and all the little details contributed to a wonderful stay.
This spotlessly clean apartment is wonderful. It is perfectly situated in Rothesay with everything you could want more or less on your doorstep.
The owner, Katrina, was very helpful thoughout the booking process, even down to suggesting scenic routes by which we could get to Bute. We did take the scenic route suggested however the weather was against us and we saw nothing other than heavy fog and the car's windscreen wipers beating backwards and forwards!
The apartment building's foyer is wide and well-lit. Unfortunately, we could not open the other half of the double entry doors and so had to carefully manoeuvre our bulky luggage through the narrow space. The other half of the door must be able to be opened (there is a large baby-buggy in the foyer) but we simply didn't have the "knack" to do it.
The apartment is located on the first floor and is accessed by a winding staircase. The risers are shallow and the treads wide, thus making it easy to negotiate with luggage. There is a handrail.
The view from the living room is, quite simply, stunning. One could sit there all day and simply watch the view however there is too much to do on Bute to indulge that luxury!
The kitchen is well-equipped however I couldn't locate a colander. Either there isn't one (in which case, please supply) or there is one and I just couldn't find it. The provision of a microwave plate cover (stashed behind the microwave) was a thoughtful inclusion.
There is a small store-cupboard where departing guests can leave non-perishable items for the use of future occupants.
The bathroom is small but serviceable. The shower is of the "over the bathtub" variety. Unfortunately, there is no grab rail. Water pressure and temperature is very good.
There are two bedrooms - one with a double bed and the other with two singles. All the beds are very low to the ground, thus making it difficult for anyone with bad knees to use without some discomfort/pain. The double bed is on a slatted base and the mattress is rather thin. This can make for some uncomfortable sleep. The curtains in this room were also quite thin, and I thought I would be disturbed by the early morning light however this proved not to be the case. If anyone thinks they may be disturbed by the light, I suggest packing a sleeping mask.
There is a washing machine. A clothes airer is provided.
There isn't a designated parking space however finding a place to park was never a problem.
If I ever returned to the Isle of Bute I would definitely stay at Academy Apartments.
The most wonderful views from this very comfortable and well "stocked" flat with a short walk to the beach, bus stop and local shops etc. We were met on arrival and everything explained (as well as a mass of info for both the flat and Bute on hand).
Perfect - we will be back.
This was my second visit to Academy Apartment and I would hope to return again one day. The apartment is clean and spacious with all that is required for a relaxing stay. The view from the sitting room window is breath taking. For the sake of modesty, I wish bath sheets were provided as opposed to a bath towel......it barely covered my rather rounded frame. The apartment is highly recommended.
Great location in peaceful setting with great facilities. Isle of Bute has much to offer with beautiful scenery, Mount Stuart House, and lovely gardens.
