Stopped here whilst cycling round Bute on a perfect spring day.
Setting couldn't be better. Menu is extensive but might be basic for some tastes: sandwiches, baked potatoes, omelettes etc but food well prepared and very generous portions sizes. Staff polite and attentive. Overall an efficiently run place.

Alex his daughter Sandy and all the staff at the tearoom make you very welcome in this fantastic appointed tearoom with incredible views over Ettrick Bay. You can bus, cycle, walk or drive here to enjoy the amazing home made soups, cakes ( a massive selection) . They use a local butchers, their breakfasts are hearty and delicious. Great selection of ice cream. Some are displayed by local artists. When your full from your delicious food, take a stroll along the beach or take the children to the park thats situated next door to the tearoom. There is a walking path from the town to tearoom which is suitable for everyone to use. Enjoy!

The cafe is very well situated with lovely views across to Arran - and no competition for a few miles.

Menu is pretty much as can be expected and majors in sandwiches, jacket potatoes and other typical lunchtime fare. The quality is ok - nothing special, but the approach is a bit unusual. A jacket potato is just that. It you would also like a very small and uninspiring salad garnish, you need to order a 'side salad' at an extra £2.40. That in theory is fine, but a tad pricey for a lettuce leaf and a couple of slices of tomato. Similar story with the toasted sandwiches.

Hot drinks are ok - a cup of tea is a tea bag in a cup; for cappuccino we were given the choice of instant or machine made and plumped for the latter, which was fine.

All in all it could easily do much better and the potential is there. Would also agree with other reviews re indifferent attitude of some of the staff. Worth it for the view and maybe a cake (we didn't try but other reviews are good). For lunch the restaurant at Mount Stuart might be a better bet.

Having left the island a few years ago I always make a point to visit Ettrick Bay and have a spot to eat at the famous tearoom. In terms of cafe service it is fantastic, food delicious and always leaves you wanting more. Staff are always friendly and chatty. The views are stunning and they could not ask for a better location. The fact it is always busy yet out of the way speaks volumes. I would highly recommend to anyone who decides to visit the island.

Great choice on menu, hot & cold meals freshly prepaired. Cakes are yummy and all "low calorie, haha".

Yyounger members of staff could do with some "people skills" training, but regular staff very friendly and cater to all your needs.

Great all year round!
