I attended the Bute Jazz Festival again this year and stayed once again at the lovely Victoria Hotel. The staff are so friendly and can't do enough for the guests and the owner of the hotel took time to go around asking guests if everything was alright. The food was excellent and the rooms incredibly clean. I enjoyed it so much that as usual I have forward booked to stay at the Victoria again next year when I go to the 2015 Bute Jazz Festival.

Room Tip: I always book a room with the marvelous sea views.

If you can manage to climb 60 stairs, this is a lovely place to stay right on the water. Friendly staff, clean room and convenient to town. Street is a bit noisy, so be sure to request a non-seaside room if you are a light sleeper.

I visited the hotel on business between 14 to the 17th of April,I have to say I am a hotels worst nightmare when on business I start early and finish late. Absolutely none of this was a problem for the staff at the Victoria they accommodated my every wish I was allowed to pre order my evening meal and it was ready and waiting for me when I finished after nine with a smile and how was your day.the room was immaculately clean the bed very comfortable the washing facilities exceptionally clean and modern.but this hotels jewel in the crown is the breakfast waitress she would not be out of place working in the ritz in London she knows what you want before you do.is absolutely unflappable you get the impression they could tell you the world is going to end in three minutes she would smile and say can I get you more toast or freshen your tea and do it before you realised she really is world class so if you go to this hotel for anything make sure you have breakfast and Ella is serving you should visit just for this.

Over the years I have rarely been let down by hotel in Scotland and the Victoria is no exception, coming off the ferry the hotel is a mere 400 yards away although as the frontage is rather insignificant you could be forgiven for driving past it (I did)
The welcome is very friendly and my room was clean and comfortable if not huge and modern with a fabulous view across to the mainland.if you can get a room on the front do so because the view is spectacular.
You have 2 choices for eating, the downstairs Bistro and the restaurant on the first floor,I only eat in the restaurant so I cannot comment on the food in the Bistro, the menu is not hugely extensive but there is enough choice to satisfy most tastes and on both evenings I ate there the food was superb, the service excellent and the staff incredibly friendly.Breakfast was the same with a good choice and whilst I was there a lovely Russian waitress who must have thought I needed building up as was regularly trying to proffer extra bacon,Sausage and Toast.
Parking is worth mentioning as it is unrestricted on the seafront side of the road but during the day you may have to park a couple of minutes walk from the hotel, evenings were pretty clear
So I am back in the Victoria 3 more times this year and thoroughly looking forward to it

Room Tip: Room with a Sea View if possible as per the photo below

Two nights at the Victoria hotel in the centre of Rothesay in early March. We have stayed in other hotels on Bute and this is the best one yet. All very fresh and comfortable inside with amazing views across the harbour and bay from the dining room and bar. Ate both nights in the Bistro - food was excellent and a varied menu.
Staff are very helpful. Breakfast had a good choice of dishes and all very tasty. Enjoyed our trips round the island which we have done on a number of occasions - always interesting. Bute seems to be getting back on its feet.

Excellent small hotel centrally placed in Rothesay. The room we were allocated was at the back on the top (attic) floor. The chair had holes in it and it could do with an update but that was the only negative. Perhaps the rooms lower down and at the front are more attractive. Its bathroom however was excellent. The whole place was spotlessly clean. Friendly staff, especially the breakfast waitress who was excellent and couldn't have done more. The breakfast was brilliant with a selection that could not have been bettered. Would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a front room on the 1st floor
