My wife & mself did a 2 day excursion to the Claymore on Mothers day. The bedroom was not big but adequate for us. Some people with mobility problems may struggle with the toilet as it is very close to the shower unit. Meals were good but small portions. Again enough for us. Probably could have got more if we wanted it. Had a young lad on as entertainment & he was a good singer. Staff good as well. However, there was one down side. We had some adverse weather & the hotel was very cold in the bedroom & entertainment room. Only the bar was hot as it has a wood burning fire in it. As we had been here before in even worse weather we could not understand why the hotel was so cold. I think the heating is swithed off at certain times of the day & night. The hotel is in a scenic location & is a lovely hotel. Next time I think we will go when its a bit warmer. We were on the ground floor as we requested. Our room was 209. No scenic view out of the window but for 1 night it made no difference. For £39 each & 4 drink vouchers each we found this well worth it. Would reccomend this hotel.

Thanks for your comments about your stay at the Claymore Hotel.
National Holidays offer great value for money and its a great deal for a 1 night getaway.
I hope that you do return later in the year as it was particularly cold when you stayed last week.

My wife and I are recently back from a National Holidays all-inclusive £139 5-day break at the Claymore and we've had a good time at a quality we expected for the price we paid.
I realise that some people have expectations of quality above what is afterall a very reasonable price, but we've come to know the standard we'll get. Although our room was a bit tired and dated, the essentials were all there - clean bed sheets, towels and plenty of hot water - just as well as there was no shower, just a bath (in an unheated bathroom). The main negative was that the mattress had obviously seen better days and wasn't that comfortable and the toilet paper was from a dispenser, not "proper" loo roll and gave the feeling of a pub toilet. Luckily we had a loch view, which we weren't expecting!! Although not a problem to us, our room was a fair walk from reception, with a series of small stairs (no more than 7 steps), so someone with limited mobility might struggle as there is no lift in the hotel.
The food was generally fine, although the early evening dining time (6.00 - 7.00p.m.) was earlier than we prefer and meant a long wait for the evening entertainment, which starts at 8.30 p.m. The bar area was warm and welcoming, with a wood burner, and the 4 drinks vouchers each per night were good value, with Carling costing £3.40 to buy, although we didn't like the house gin and opted to pay the extra 50p to upgrade to Gordons.
All staff were friendly and welcoming, with the management approachable and receptive to any comments or requests - if you're not happy about something, they'll do what they can to remedy things, so don't hesitate to raise anything.
Varied entertainment on the evenings, so there should be something for everyone, with bingo on most nights as well.
Some reasonable trips out (Oban/Inverrary/Callender/Trossachs), if a bit too many woolen mill outlets for our liking, with a free day with an optional Fort William trip (£12), although we used the free time to walk around Loch Long and then across the hills to Tarbet on Loch Lomond - although there's not really anything there except the Tarbet Hotel and a tea room!!
We tried the Village Inn (turn left out of hotel) and loved it - rooms with real log open fires and a great atmosphere. In addition to the usual beers/lagers they have guest real ales and you can have 3 ponies to try for the price of a pint, with what seemed a good food menu - although we didn't eat there. If we weren't all-inclusive at the Claymore we may have used it more!!
Overall an enjoyable 5 days (the weather was even reasonable!!) and a great opportunity to see a different part of the country at a cheap price, which is why we use National Holidays!!

Room Tip: Our room was a bit tired and dated, but I undersatnd there is some refurbishment ongoing, so you may...

With National Holidays 04/03/13 to 08/03/13 first impressions were "Nice with lovely overlook of Loch Long". Got a very friendly welcome and my room was in the main building with a great front view.
The only problem was a noisy floor that needs its floorboards relaying but with no-one below me that was irrelevant. Clean and comfortable otherwise.
The dining area was spacious and well equipped for able and disabled visitors and I have to say the staff were first class for friendliness and accomodating needs. Special mention "Barbara and Henrik" for their excepional patience.
Night entertainment was mainly singer with pre-rec. backing track type but they catered for all tastes doing so with emphasis on danceable or singalong music esp. for the senior guests on National Holidays. A good well stocked bar with great comfy lounge.
All in all a very nice gateway to Scotland hotel

Room Tip: Rooms in main building best views

Many thanks for your review on trip adviser.
I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay at the hotel and that you had a room with a terrific view. The main building was built in 1697 so some of the floorboards area bit creaky!!
I will pass on your comments to Barbara and Henrik - they'll be so pleased.
I will look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.
Kind regards,

We went with national holidays and paid £139 pp for a four night stay (Mon-Fri). This gives you 4 free drinks per night, I would however suggest that you pay £99 and pay as you go at the bar as you only get Carling lager / Worthington and cheap branded spirits, although you can pay 50p or £1 to upgrade, although the bar prices indicated that Grolsch or Guinness was only 20p more so to pay an extra pound didn’t make it good value.
The Bar itself was very pleasant and had a log fire to add a cosiness factor, prices were consistent and not overpriced although spirits are served at the old 25ml measures this is clearly shown though not the more common measure of 35ml that we get more of these days, although that means you can taste more the excellent range of malt whiskies.
The Hotel is not far from local amenities and local bar (we didn’t go as it was cold)
Cleanliness of the hotel was excellent throughout the hotel and in the room.
The room itself was quite small but you were only in it to sleep so no big issue. The bed for me gave good nights sleep. The TV was dated and there was no shower although we go an attachment from reception so only small niggles on the room itself. Our room had a view of the loch itself. It would be nice if a flat screen TV could be used and hung on the wall opposite the beds (between the bathroom and wardrobe) and do a little plumbing and change the bath taps to mixer taps with a shower. Some of the corridors we a bit cold but again just a small niggle.
The deal included evening meals (3 –course) and breakfast, the food isn’t haute cuisine but is of reasonable quality for what you pay for, portions aren’t big but adequate with a good selection on the menu. Service was prompt but not rushed.
The friendliness of the staff was excellent throughout the hotel.
Optional extras for the holiday were a boat trip on Loch Lomond (£7 each) and a trip to Fort William via Glencoe (with a local driver)(£12 each)
For the price we paid the hotel gave excellent value for money and would not object to staying their again (although perhaps in warmer weather)

Room Tip: If you have walking difficulties let them know as there are lifts

Just back from a 5 day holiday at the Claymore Hotel with National Holidays. Hotel and room clean and warm throughout ( except dinning room), all staff very helpful and informative. Excellent entertainment each night assisted by Elaine and Les. Plenty of choice of food on menu, and always hot. Bedroom clean and bed very comfortable. Ask for a "Loch view" room , the views are fantastic ,well worth the extra cost. Only complaint I have is the coach our driver had to endure. Heating only worked at the front , persistent beeping in cab keeping driver busy, needed cleaning before being used. Good job the hotel and scenery made up for it. Well done to all the staff concerned.

Room Tip: Choose to pay extra for Loch view.
