“Not 5star but excellent value for money All-Incl. Package”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 December 2013

We have recently returned from Beautiful Scotland tour with National. The Claymore hotel is in a beautiful location overlooking Loch Long with stunning views especially in the mild autumn weather. Whilst the hotel is not 5 star, it is clean, comfortable with friendly and obliging staff who will go out of their way to keep their customers happy. All the staff were extremely kind during our 5 day stay and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfasts and evening meals provided a good choice of foods to choose from to meet most customers palettes. Our package included 4 drinks per person daily from the bar service which we thought was marvellous and saved us a lot of additional expense. In addition a traditional cream tea was served mid week, again at no additional expense. Entertainment was provided each evening which was good. Trips to Callander, The Trossachs, Inverary and Oban were well worth the visit but on the optional day we took a long walk along Loch Long and then a light lunch in the nearby Village Inn which is highly recommended for good pub food and selection of real ales. We will definitely book more of these breaks next year as thoroughly enjoyable. The only negative point to make sadly was the attitude of our driver, Paul, who needed full training in customer care and knowledge of the places we visited. Perhaps he was not used to the route or area but was rather rude to us on a number of occasions.

Room Tip: There is no lift in this hotel so recommend a scenic en-suite room on low floor if guests have any m...

just came back from the claymore hotel stayed there 25th to 29th nov 2013.what a fantastic holiday we have had.from getting on the coach with Alex the driver who was excellent from getting on to getting off and even at the hotel ,he helped us in everyway he could.the staff at The Claymore were excellent every single one of them.nothing was a bother to anyone,we were told if you want anything just ask we did and we got.My wheel on wheelchair broke Elaine and Alex tried there best in every way to help. The room had an amazing view of the loch out of window, you could just step in the loch nearly. We were that close,.the meals were fine, if you wanted more you asked no humming or harring waiter just brought what you wanted.Entertainment was ok it passed the night or you could go into bar.Would we go back, bet your life we will, next year.Well done all at The Claymore Hotel keep up the good work.

Room Tip: lower floor rooms have better view

We travelled with national holidays like everyone else who has written a review as this Hotel is owned by Shearings. It was a cheap weekend break and basically you get what you pay for. The room was small and basic but clean, I would have liked a shower and asked in reception to be moved. The receptionist said only 20% of the rooms have showers and there were no other rooms available. The breakfast was done as a fast food restaurant I don't mind cold toast but I do like hot tea, it had been stood and then served later like all the other meals. So if you come down later you get food which has been kept warm! The restaurant was full so everything is dished out at once and served up later! We enjoyed the entertainment and the free drinks were excellant value and the setting was magical, it's just a pity the Hotel rooms and food let it down, but thats why it was so cheap!

Thanks for your comments on trip adviser.
I tend to think that you get MORE than what you pay for when you come to stay at the Claymore Hotel.
We offer terrific friendly service with a smile, varied entertainment and great all round value for money which you have recognised in your review.
I only hope that you can return to the Claymore in the near future.
Regards,
Gary Watson.

Our 1st visit to this area of Scotland 25-29 November 2013. Very friendly atmosphere. David welcomed us on the coach. The food was of good quality & varied throughout the stay. Our waiters Diego & Margarethe were helpful, friendly and courteous. The barman Jose was the same. Evening entertainment was fine. We loved the excursions to Callender, Inveraray & Oban. Well worth buying your Whiskey at the various distilleries as a lot more expensive at Gretna Green Blacksmith's shop. This was an ideal holiday spot to see the various Locks and beautiful scenery that Scotland has to offer.
We will be going back. Thanks to all the hotel staff for helping us have a great time

We had a 2 night stay at The Claymore Hotel as part of a large group. The setting of the hotel was fantastic, nestled between Lochs Lomond and Long. Our room was okay and the beds quite comfortable. The evening meals were fine. The one thing that did let this hotel down was the breakfast. On our first morning I ordered the full English (or Scottish) as the case may have been. The bacon was inedible. It was hard and luke warm. it looked like it had been cooked and left out on a tray. This is not the way to serve bacon. I commented to the waiter that it was inedible. he just shrugged his shoulders and took the plate away. The second morning we had no toast on the table. we asked for toast and the same waiter from the day before picked up a rack of toast from the side, which had been there since before we arrived for breakfast. It was stone cold, and we asked him to bring warm toast, which he did, eventually. I had the scrambled eggs, and if you don't mind eggs swiiming in water you are fine. Definitely not the place to go if you want a decent breakfast. Another issue we had was the fire alarm went off at 5:30am on the day we were due to leave. After evacuation we were told that it was because someone had been drying something on a radiator. I know it pays to be safe, but maybe a little less sensitive may be the answer. My overall impression was it was a little bit like Butlins, without the redcoats. As I said it's in an ideal location, however they certainly need to work on the food, especially the breakfast, which frankly is just not good enough.

Many thanks for your comments on trip adviser.
Your comments about the breakfast will be passed on to the kitchen and dining room and I can only apologise for the service you received.
The fire alarm that went off in the early hours was caused by guests drying clothes and this immediately informs the hotel that there is a heat / smoke source in a room.
The sensitivity of these alarms are set to save lives and disruption to normal activity is expected.
Regards,
Gary Watson.

My Husband and I stayed at the hotel on the 11th October for 4 days with National Holidays. Well what can i say... BRILLIANT!!! I booked the trip for my Husbands 30TH, i wanted the trip to be as perfect as i possibly could make it as it was a surprise trip for my Husband. I did email the Manager quite a lot before getting there as i was nervous about the accommodation after reading the comments on here. I did not have to worry.. The hotel is beautiful and the staff are so welcoming. The room was spectacular the view was breathtaking could not have asked for a better room.

Most people on here that are moaning about the decor and the food ect... Well you are getting good value for money esp when travelling with National Holidays. We had the all inclusive package so food, 4 drinks each per night, excursions were all included in the brilliant price they set out. If you want spotless no character hotels then go pay the ridiculous amount of money that those places ask for.

All you need is a comfy bed good food and atmosphere and breathtaking views and relaxation for a perfect holiday and the Claymore is that hotel.

Dare i say we are returning hopefully in January and hope to have the same room (Room 1) as my husband is paying for a belated 30th prezzie for myself back to this lovely hotel.

See you soon Claymore.

Room Tip: Loch View lovely to wake up too
