Negatives first - no lifts in this hotel. This fact ought to be stated before booking so that less mobile guests could be allocated a low floor.
No shower - a hand held hose was made available, but this would not connect to the taps.
Positives - a stunning setting on the shore of Loch Long.
Wonderful staff. All were efficient and worked with a smile.
The hotel worked like clockwork - obviously well trained staff.
Beautiful food, well cooked. Interesting, well cooked vegetables. Very tasty.
The portions were ample - but beware of over generosity.
When no beans or tomato were requested, the plate came with double sausage, double bacon and double eggs!!! Good quality too.
Public rooms were spotlessly clean, as were the bedrooms.

Room Tip: If mobility is a problem request a ground floor ,as there are no lifts in this hotel.

Many thanks for your comments on trip adviser.
We are hoping to get rid of the negatives you have posted here but there is no lift as we only have 3 levels and you enter the rooms on the middle level.
We are also looking to install more showers and this process is ongoing.
We hope that you can return to the hotel in the future to enjoy some more Scottish hospitality!
Kind regards,
Gary Watson.

Just home from a 4 day stay at the Claymore. We travelled with National Coaches. We both agree that it was one of the best National Holidays that we had, and we have travelled with them all over the country for many years. The Claymore is a beautiful building steeped in history a bit dated but what the heck for what we paid for it, it was a little gem. Booking in was very fast and efficient considering a couple of other coaches arrived at the same time. We were given a twin room 317 on ground floor overlooking Loch Long. Perfect. Hairdrier, tea and coffee facitities, TV , bath with hand held shower. Room date, BUT had spotlessly clean white sheets, fluffy white towels & was cleaned daily. The food was easily compared with a 3/4 star hotel, plenty of choice, and a very efficient service. The young waiters and waitresses were polite and always had a smile on their face if we asked for extras we were told 'no problem' and extras delivered to our table within seconds. They are a credit to the Claymore as is every other members of staff, from the Manager, night security, cleaners and all behind the scene (Chefs) deserve praise. Thankyou for making our short break a holiday to remember.

Room Tip: Room 317 is on ground floor with beautiful views over Loch Long

We booked a trip to this hotel with National Holidays and had a really brilliant time. The coach driver Alex was from the area and knew all there was to know about the history and scenery. We did 3 different trips visiting Loch Lomond Callander Inverary Fort William and Oban and they were all excellent. I suppose the fact that we got really good weather ( a first for me in Scotland) added greatly to the pleasure. The Hotel was in an excellent position overlooking Loch Long. The hotel was a bit dated however and we did not have a shower in the our bathroom but for the price we paid it was good value for money. The food was good and they really looked after my hubbie who has to have a gluten free diet. I would go so far as to say that they were outstanding as far as this was concerned. The evening entertainment in the hotel was brilliant on the first two nights and ok on the following two but it was much better that we have experienced on other National Holiday Trips. All in all it was a great experience and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a few days away and a good time.

Room Tip: ask for a room with a loch view and definitely ask for a room with a shower.

Hotel set in lovely grounds, over looking loch long.booking in at reception was quick & easy.hotel could do with a lick of paint in most places, room was 314 which over looked the loch on ground floor. Clean & tidy, only down fall was no shower.but if you go to reception they will give you one that fits on the bath taps.high water pressure & lots of hot water so this works well. Food was very good, restaurant staff was very friendly & worked hard.only thing we fount here was a short. Window to have your meal.8-9am & 18.00-19.00 for evening.did not give you a lot of time to get ready when been out on coach trip.read a few bad reviews of this hotel, just wonder what some people except . We both enjoyed our stay. & would return in the future.

Room Tip: Ask for loch view & shower

Just returned home from here with National Holidays coach tour. We were given our room key and were immediately disappointed with the room (203). It was the smallest twin room I have ever seen. The bedding was covered in greasy stains, the carpet was filthy and the bathroom was covered in mould. We must have had the smallest window in the hotel and upon looking out we were gobsmacked. Not only did we have a room not much bigger than a prison cell we also had a delightful view of the exercise yard! We thought we were in an episode of Prison cell block H. All we could see was a small square of pebble dashed walls, concrete and a few more windows with the same view as ours. The hotel had tried to disguise this as by adding 5 flower pots in a row filled with dead flowers. We asked for another room but was told the hotel was fully booked. After a terrible nights sleep of not been able to breath we went to reception to ask again. This time the receptionist did everything she could to find us another room and within 20 mins she had found us one which was twice the size and with a nice view of the lake and the hillside - a 100% improvement.
The food was nice but only small portions but to be fair this has been the same on all holidays we have been on. Our waitress would ask us if she could get us anything else and when we said yes, she either looked at us to say "you should say no we're fine" or we never got what we asked for or we had to ask her three times on one occasion for more tea and toast.. She also had us on rations at breakfast times just bringing half a rack of toast between 2 of us whereas the waiter who served the other side of the restaurant seemed to keep his diners supplied with plenty of toast etc.
The nightly entertainment was good on two of the nights but on the saruday evening there was a guy singing who was abit corny and cheesy with his gags, but that's just a personal preference for me. We only played bingo on one night out of the three we were there. We realise not everyone likes bingo but it just passes an hour between dinner and waiting for the entertainment to start.
We enjoyed our days out visiting Inverary, Oban, Callendar and driving through the Trossachs National Park.

Many thanks for your comments on trip adviser.
I'm disappointed to read that you were unhappy with your room. I'm also very concerned about the reasons why.
There is no way we would allow greasy stained bedding to be put on to beds, carpets to be filthy and bathrooms to be mouldy. This simply does not happen.
Please don't report issues that do not exist.
The issue with the room was the size. You requested a ground floor room with shower and when you arrived the room was too small.
We were fully occupied on the Friday and we were able to move you the next day to a room with 9 steps up to it and it had no shower.???? Why request low floor and shower??!!
The toast amounts are kept to a minimum in order to keep food waste down - all you have to do is ask for more - it then comes fresh and hot!.
I'm very pleased that you enjoyed the entertainment on at least one of the nights!
Regards,
Gary Watson.

This is my 2nd visit to this hotel and I thoroughly enjoyed it apart from the weather this year was glorious when we arrived on the Friday afternoon but rained on the Saturday and Sunday but still enjoyed trips out.

Room Tip: Both rooms I stayed in were good but if you want scenic from your room you have to pay extra.
