Braemor B&B
Ranked #10 of 16 Arrochar B&B and Inns
Reviewed 26 July 2013

We had high hopes for Braemor B&B but came away disappointed. Our bedroom felt rather starkly furnished and cold having no carpet on the floor. Of note is that not all the rooms have lochside views. The one at the back whilst not having an unpleasant view back looks up to a steep bank. Of more concern was that the bed mattress was not comfortable.

What we found most disappointing was the offhand attitude of one of the two male owners. Perhaps it was his 'off day' but we don't seem to be alone in experiencing this, judging by another reviewer who also scored Braemor B&B as average. Also in common we too felt that the portions at breakfast were a bit mean.

We have stayed at Dalkusha House (B&B) next door and preferred it. It's set in more extensive and secluded grounds further back from the main road and has more character being a Victorian villa. Try there or the Village Inn (located by the loch down a quiet road) for a comfortable and welcoming stay. We found the evening meals there to be excellent. Unfortunately both were not available at the time of this visit so we will be booking earlier next time.

Braemor is a wonderful home away from home! It is situated in the little village of Arrochar, up on a hill with spectacular view of Loch Long. The view out our bedroom window wa breaktaking, and we could not stop taking photos!! The host, Reg, is an absolute honey, who goes the extra mile to make you comfortable. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and it is very quiet at night. The breakfast was delightful, and we are hoping to return as soon as we can. Thank you Reg, for making our 4 days at your home so special.

Room Tip: They all overlook the Loch and have stunning views.

We booked at Braemor after reading the reviews on trip advisor. All those positive comments are right on. Great room, beautiful place inside and out, marvelous view and walking access to places in the view, super owner and polite little dogs. And the food was really good too. If you're going to Arrochar, stay here.

We only stayed for one night en route to Mull, but wish we could have stayed longer. Reg is a very welcoming host, taking a real interest in the guests and going out of his way to make you feel at home. We took over two rooms, both overlooking the loch with fantastic views...we even saw deer in the drive when we walked back from dinner in the village. The house is very clean and well furnished and the breakfasts were excellent. Reg let us look around his garden, showed us a fresh honeycomb that his bees had produced, and gave us a bit of history for some of his nick-nacks (we're nosey people) - great to meet a B&B owner who takes real pleasure in their job and in meeting people. We'd certainly be back again, hopefully for a few more days next time!

After discussing this with Reg, I was going to start off this review by saying that our stay was awful; Reg couldn't poach an egg to save his life and the hounds were a constant nuisance... but that would all be a complete lie!! Sorry Reg, I just couldn't do it and put a false review!

My wife and I had got married the day before and had a four night stay booked in Braemor. We had travelled from Derby and arriving late on the Sunday night straight away Reg showed exactly why this was the best week of our lives with the most wonderful accommodation we have ever stayed in. Reg welcomed us into his home and offered us drinks and introduced us to Bertie and Tiger, his most faithful and delightful companions. We then discussed our day and Reg was asking all about the wedding and taking a genuine interest in us, which was then followed by a G&T (the first of many that week!).

The rooms and house are delightfully decorated and Braemor is in the most picturesque setting you could imagine. The B&B has everything you could wish for in terms of facilities and in the morning we received a three/four/five course breakfast and could have whatever we wanted, with wonderful fresh eggs and home-made jams and marmalades (the honey will be coming soon as well!). On the second day Reg made us smoked kippers as we had never tried them before and were just beautiful.

We did not have an itinerary of things to do so Reg lent us his map and gave us lots of suggestions, all of which we tried and made our stay as he knew exactly what we would like and tailored it accordingly. Every evening we shared a drink with Reg and it was like staying with a genuine friend.

On our last evening his partner Gordon arrived from being away with work, and even though Gordon had been up since four o'clock in the morning, he had a drink with us and gave us loads of great advice for our honeymoon and it was a real pleasure.

What I think though made our stay so wonderful is Reg himself. He is the most friendly and warm hearted person we have ever met and takes a real genuine interest in other people and enjoys their company. As a result of this, it is reflected in the service received.

Thank you Reg, we can't wait to come back!

After about a 10 hour drive from London on Good Friday, we arrived at Braemor B&B where we were warmly greeted by Reg (the owner) who helped us to our room. We were then offered a whiskey (to help warm us up after the long drive) in the breakfast/lounge area where we sat and chatted to Reg, admired the beautiful views of the Loch and played with his adorable and ever so sweet dogs Bertie and Tiger. Reg had very kindly booked us a table at the Village Inn (highly recommended for their varied menu and delicious food) for dinner, as it was the Easter weekend and he knew that everywhere would be very full.

The B&B itself is beautifully decorated to a very high standard. All the rooms have wonderfully modern yet cosy interiors and room 2, which we stayed in, has the most unbelievably breathtaking views over Loch Long. The rooms are immacutely clean and stocked with everything you could want: TV and DVD player, hospitality trays with a selection of teas, coffee and biscuits, hairdryer, alarm clock etc. The beds are very comfortable and the small basket of high quality toiletries in the bathroom was a wonderful touch. There is also free wireless internet access. You really couldn't ask for more!

The B&B enjoys a prime position off the road on top of a hill with uninterruped views over the gorgeous Loch Long. The garden is beautifully done and we saw many birds and were lucky enough to spot a deer one morning. Reg even has some chickens, so you know you're getting the freshest eggs for breakfast!

Reg was the most wonderful, gracious and thoughtful host. We didn't really know much about the area and what there was to do but Reg gave us a run down of all the places worth visiting and where we should eat. His cooked breakfasts (eggs, bacon, sausage, tomatoes, mushrooms, toast etc.) in the beautiful breakfast area were absolutely delicious. Reg also provided us with juice, tea/coffee, a variety of cereals, yoghurts, milk etc., so there was definitely something for everyone (and plenty of it).

We had the most incredible time at Braemor and Arrochar. The B&B is 5 star luxury and home away from home all rolled into one. We did not want to leave! I cannot recommend it highly enough. You really will not find a more beautiful property with a more gracious, wonderful host as Reg. As there are only 3 rooms, I recommend booking ASAP to avoid disappointment!

Reg, if you read this, please give Bertie and Tiger a cuddle from us.

My girlfriend and myself stopped here on the way up to Skye. The property is in a beautiful location overlooking the loch.
Reg is ace, a lovely super friendly bloke he couldn't have been more helpful.
When we returned from dinner we sat in his front room with the other guests supping whisky, talking the talk and playing with his beautiful pair of daschounds.
Fantastic breaky and an invite to pop in for a coffee on the way home!!
This is the way it should be...a well deserved 5 STAR rating.
