“Loch Long Hotel/Lochs and Glens Holidays”
Reviewed 20 October 2011

This was our first holiday with Lochs and Glens and was very successful.
The Loch Long Hotel was well staffed and attentive at all times.
Food was good and rooms clean and comfortable.
Our driver, Dave, was very good and his knowledge of the area was outstanding. He even took us on a short tour of Glasgow as we were ahead of time.
Great value for money at all times.
Thanks to all concerned.

Let the festering pit called mansfield behind for a wonderful wk in the highlands courtesy of lochs n glens - a hols company i have used several times.

This time it was to Loch Long Hotel at Arrochar and what promised to live up to its grand title of unique scottish journeys - all by steam based travel.

Run up there was text book and we found ourselves at hotel half five. check in was swift and the first get together of our new mates began at dinner - food was crackin' no problems to encounter there - bar prices v good too.

1st day trip was to take a liesurely cruise on the legendary steamship "the waverley" - for this we had to suffer 2 hrs in Dunoon - there is little to see in dunoon....so i spent it searching for camera batteries and reading a paper with a pint, then a bag of chips!

the cruise was delightful - then it was back to hotel for a dinner and a few beers...

Arrochar is blesed with a couple of pubs and hotels fairly close by along with shops and a chippy opposite hotel [not needed!] just in case you fancy something different

next day after a hearty breakfast incl "stick to yer ribs" porridge - our next trip was to be on Lake katrine and aboard the steamship "sir walter scott" [have done this before - but as trip included a lunch stop at a sister hotel "Loch Achray" decided to go along]

weather was great!

final day trip was the one that majority of us went up there for in 1st place - a ride behind steam on the legendary "west highland line" from Ft William to Mallaig.

A trip i have done twice before from further down the line {tyndrum actually} but by diesel - still as scenic and breathtaking nevertheless!!!

Snag was today it was chucking it down... never mind... will make for atmospheric piccys...

Lochsn Glens had their own coach allocated and i'd told everyone on coach to sit on the LEFT side of coach to gain max views...i spent me time hanging out of the carriage door window listening to the pristine Black Five loco "lancs fusileers" work hard.. covering me in clag for the priviledge!

journeys end was at mallaig where a decent pinbt can be hand in the "marine bar" next to station - a butty can be bought from coop opp station...

the coach took us back to hotel via the wonderful Pass of Glencoe - a journey that is the car equivalent of the west highland line, which has been declared as "the greatest railway journey in the world" - and i cannot argue with that!

final night was marred slightly by a fire alarm sounding off - which turned out to be genuine. thankfully no one was hurt but a contractors room at hotel was badly smoke damaged along with a corridor - seems the pillock had be drying overalls on a convector heater, and forgot about em as he and his 3 mates were draining a pub dry up the road!

top marks to management n staff who handled this potentially worrying situation like pro's...

The new lochs n glens hotel opens for biz early next yr and its some 3 mls along the lochside from the current loch long hotel.

early start departure day saw us homeward bound after breakfasting for 7;45 - our pace on the way back was astonishing... we arrived at the first drop off point {worksop} at 3;15....normally due to friday traffic etc its around 5pm....

once back home it was time to download all pics taken from week and reminisce about it all....

so to sum up.. great food great company and cracking scenery!!!!at a ridiculously cheap price....

will add pics later

Yet again, Lochs and Glens holidays do not fail to please. From beginning to end we enjoyed a first class experience. From friendly and humorous coach drivers to helpful and efficient staff at the hotel we had nothing but the best.

The hotel itself was spotlessly clean with spacious public areas, a welcoming dining room and well equipped compact bedroom with really comfortable beds. The en-suite shower room looked as though it had just been entirely refurbished. Both breakfast and dinner menus offered a great choice and all the food came quickly and hot. When I decided not to have dessert one evening, the waitress asked what she could bring me that was not on the menu. I call that perfect service, particularly good for a 3* hotel.

We had the unfortunate experience of a power cut on arrival back one day, but the staff had managed to provide tea and coffee for everyone and promised at least soup and sandwiches if unable to provide the normal three course evening meal. In the event, the power came back on early evening, and to our surprise when we arrived in the dining room, the chefs had provided a full well cooked evening meal.

Quality means getting it right first time every time. Loch Long Hotel certainly succeeds here. Congratulations to the company and all its staff.

Room Tip: When booking we asked for a loch view and walk-in shower and got it. Definitely the best option.

Last year we stayed at Fort William, and enjoyed it so much we couldn`t wait to try another hotel, Unique Scottish Journeys at Long Long hotel were certainly unique, the train journey from Mallaig to Fort William was amazing, and the trips on Loch Katrine and round the Kyles of Bute on lovely sunny days was something we``ll remember. We are now looking to book up for next year at one of the other hotels, they are such good value as the trips are all included in the price.

We did not think that customer service of this kind still existed but it's alive and well at the Loch Long Hotel in Arrochar! We also heard that this is the same at Lochs and Glens' other hotels. All staff were polite, friendly and incredibly helpful which really added to the holiday experience. The rooms may not be five star quality but they were constantly kept clean, with fresh towels each day and the beds were very comfortable. There were great views of the Loch from our hotel and on the day on which we were too tired to join the planned excursion the manager offered to get someone to run us to the station to catch a train to Glasgow. There was plenty of food and plenty of choice and dancing in the evening for those with energy left. I can't think of anything negative to say about this hotel and hope to return again soon.

Room Tip: Get a loch view if you can

This was our first Lochs and Glens holiday, and we loved it. The hotel staff were very friendly and efficient, couldn't fault them at all. Food was excellant too and the room was clean and comfortable. We'll definatly go back. The bus driver Chris Nelson was a mine of information and kept us well informed at all times with interesting facts on Scotland, his driving was the best we've ever experienced on a coach. The hotel was set at the side of a tidal loch in a small village which was lovely. Can't wait to go back.
